Happier in the relief that you’re no longer hurtin

One month ago, today , my Dad passed from ALS aka Lou Gehrig's disease. My Dad fought as long as he could and was adamant about where he would pass. My Dad was an amazing Dad and Grandfather. He was a real FIGHTER . I am happier in the relief that he is no longer hurting . No more waking up crying and fall asleep, crying and worrying . I didn’t get to tell him this but ..”Dad , I forgive you & I LOVE YOU- ALWAYS..” ❤️🫶🕊️ #youlookhappier #lossofmydad #unfiltered #lemon8challenge

... Read moreAmyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control. ALS is a particularly challenging illness, not only for the patient but for their families and caregivers as well. The experience of watching a loved one endure the progression of ALS can be emotionally devastating. Many families face prolonged periods of distress as they witness symptoms worsen, including muscle weakness, paralysis, and ultimately respiratory failure. The emotional toll often includes feelings of helplessness, anxiety, and grief. Finding peace after the loss of someone to ALS can be a complex journey. Relief often accompanies grief as the loved one is no longer in pain or suffering, though this may initially bring guilt or confusion. Expressions of forgiveness and love, as shared in this tribute, are powerful tools for healing and closure. Support networks and communities, such as those on social platforms using hashtags like #lossofmydad and #youlookhappier, provide spaces for sharing experiences and receiving empathy. Public awareness campaigns using candid language, exemplified by the image statement “FUCK ALS,” highlight the urgency in finding a cure and rallying support for research. For families affected by ALS, professional counseling, caregiver support groups, and resources from organizations dedicated to ALS care can offer guidance and comfort. Understanding the disease and connecting with others who have experienced similar losses can strengthen resilience and foster emotional recovery. Ultimately, honoring a loved one’s courage and love while navigating the complex emotions of loss and relief is crucial. The journey of mourning after ALS involves acknowledging both the pain of loss and the relief in the end of suffering, enabling survivors to find hope and meaning moving forward.
