That's exactly where I am with my current 'work in progress,' or WIP, novel, 'Won't Let Go.' Writing 'Won't Let Go' has been such a journey. It's a romantic drama exploring the complexities of a four-year romance between a writer and an artist. The story really dives deep into themes of love, family, friendships, and even navigating moments of depression and trauma. What makes it unique, and something I'm really excited about, is that it's told primarily through letters – an epistolary novel! This means you'll be experiencing Finn and Lucy's relationship unfolding through their personal correspondence, offering an intimate and raw perspective on their journey, including the aftermath of a significant accident that shapes their lives. I've found that using dual POVs through these letters really allows for a rich exploration of both characters' inner worlds. So, what exactly is an epistolary novel, and why did I choose this format for 'Won't Let Go'? At its core, an epistolary novel is a story told through a series of documents – traditionally letters, but it can also be journal entries, emails, or even newspaper clippings. For me, it was the perfect way to capture the emotional depth and personal reflection I wanted for Finn and Lucy's story. Imagine reading someone's most private thoughts, fears, and hopes directly from their pen! It creates a sense of immediacy and intimacy that's hard to achieve with a traditional narrative. It lets you witness the evolution of their relationship, their hopes, and heartbreaks, almost as if you're holding their secrets in your hands. This format allows the characters to reflect on their experiences, providing unique insights into their four-year romance and how they cope with various life events. It's a powerful way to explore relationships and the impact of significant moments, making the reader a direct confidant in their love story, their family dynamics, and their friendships. Plus, it’s a nod to some classic storytelling methods that bring a certain charm and depth to modern romance.
