Right after getting your chicks, it's essential to provide a warm, safe brooder with a heat lamp because chicks can't regulate their body temperature well at first. Fresh water and chick starter feed should always be available to support their rapid growth. Naming your chicks adds a personal touch to the experience, and it’s great to see names like Fluffernut, Muffin, Rose, and Daisy—each unique and fun to say out loud! Spending time observing their little habits helps you bond with them, and you can even start gentle handling early to socialize them when they are a bit older. It’s also important to keep the brooder clean to prevent illness, changing the bedding regularly and monitoring their health daily. Chicks are surprisingly social, so having more than one, like in this case, helps them stay active and engaged. Overall, welcoming baby chicks is rewarding and full of learning. If you’re new to chick raising or thinking about it, these little tips from my experience can make the journey enjoyable and successful. Enjoy the fluffy companions and the sweet memories they bring!
