an extremely emotional read 🤍✨
Everyone that knows me knows I like sad emo books that will have me sobbing like when Elphie screams FIYERO in no good deed, and this was no different.
Only Ever You by Haley Warren is a masterpiece, so much that just after one book from her, she's become an auto-buy author for me. The way I was suffering since page 2? Criminal.
Sloan and Bohdan meet in college in such a heartwarming and meet-cute way, and they become each other's world. Bohdan has a way of understanding Sloan's cues and triggers, and he has no problem "adapting" his life to make sure she feels seen, reassured, and secure, until one nasty accident kills his dreams. He navigates through the loss of what could've been and has his own mental and physical struggles. This book is a perfect depiction of how mental illnesses and disabilities impact an individual's life, not just in relationships with others, but in the way they see and carry themselves. After parting ways, they are forced to be on a week-long cruise to celebrate their friend's retirement, where they must face their fears and everything they never got over.
What to expect:
✨ second chance
✨ found family
✨ forced proximity
✨ mental health rep
✨ disability rep

As a booklover who craves stories that truly make me *feel*, 'Only Ever You' by Haley Warren hit every single emotional chord. You know those books that leave you with a book hangover for days? This is absolutely one of them. While the original review perfectly captures the essence of Sloan and Bohdan's heartbreaking journey, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what makes this story so uniquely impactful, especially for those of us who appreciate every nuance of a deep, second-chance romance. One element that truly elevated my reading experience, and which I noticed in the accompanying visuals, were the poignant 'diary entries' from both 'HIM' and 'HER' perspectives. These weren't just snippets; they were raw, unfiltered glimpses into Sloan and Bohdan's innermost thoughts and struggles. Reading their individual entries, especially during their separation, created such a powerful sense of empathy. It’s one thing to be told characters are suffering, but to read their direct, private thoughts – like seeing 'THIS BREAKS MY HEART' comments on the pages – made their pain and their longing incredibly visceral. It allowed me to connect with their mental health struggles on a much more intimate level, understanding their fears and hopes as if they were my own. It’s a brilliant way Haley Warren brings you into their world. Another detail that really stuck with me, and which I saw hinted at in 'Sloan's Playlist' titled 'The Story of Us,' is how music plays a subtle yet profound role in their journey. For me, a good book playlist can totally transform the reading experience. Imagining the songs on Sloan's playlist as the soundtrack to her and Bohdan’s story, especially during their college days and later on the 'Talon's Retirement River Cruise,' just adds another layer of emotional depth. It makes me want to create my own 'Only Ever You' playlist, carefully selecting tracks that capture their ups and downs, from their meet-cute to their most agonizing moments. It's an invitation to immerse yourself even further into their world, making the heartbreak and triumphs even more vivid. Speaking of the setting, the 'Talon's Retirement River Cruise' provides the ultimate backdrop for a forced proximity, second chance romance. There's something inherently intense about being confined to a cruise ship, knowing you can't escape the person you're trying to avoid, or the feelings you're trying to bury. This setting brilliantly amplifies the tension and forces Sloan and Bohdan to confront everything they've left unsaid and undone. It’s not just a vacation; it’s a crucible where their past comes roaring back to life. The claustrophobia of the ship, combined with the vastness of the ocean, perfectly mirrors the emotional landscape of their reunion. Ultimately, 'Only Ever You by Haley Warren' isn’t just a romance; it’s a profound exploration of love, loss, and the enduring impact of mental illness and disability. It’s a book that champions realistic representation, making characters like Sloan and Bohdan feel incredibly real and complex. If you're searching for a read that will give you all the 'me before you emotional moment' feels, one that will make you shed 'UGLY tears' but leave you with a heart full of hope, then this masterpiece is absolutely for you. Trust me, you'll want to add Haley Warren to your auto-buy author list too!
