Flying across the world for a cave👀

Cave details 👇🏼

When I first saw this cave online, I immediately added it to my bucket list. I mean, I actually keep a list of places I want to visit.. and this was physically added to it. It did NOT disappoint.

📍Phraya Nakhon cave - Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, Thailand

🪨 You have two options to reach Laem Sala Beach:

🥾Hike: A 30-45 minute trek over a hill offering scenic coastal views. (It is         entirely uphill.)

🛶Boat Ride: A short trip directly to Laem Sala Beach, costing about 150 THB     (4USD)per person. We opted for the boat ride!

💰 Entrance to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park is 200 THB (6USD) for adults and 100(3USD) THB for children.Tickets can be purchased at the park office near the trailhead.

🏛Home to the stunning Kuha Karuhas Pavilion—a golden temple illuminated by sunlight streaming through the cave’s open ceiling! It was built in 1890 for King Rama V and has since become an iconic landmark.

‼️This hike is tiring! It is entirely up hill and consists of almost all rock steps to get to the cave. Then, you have to go down into the cave. But, it was absolutely worth it.

Would you fly across the world to experience this cave?

... Read moreAfter seeing countless photos, I finally made the journey to Phraya Nakhon Cave, and it truly lived up to the hype! I remember friends asking, "You're seriously flying all that way just for a cave?" And my answer, after experiencing it, is a resounding YES. To make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as mine, here are a few extra tips based on my experience: Best Time to Visit: This is crucial for capturing that iconic golden temple shot! The sunlight streams directly onto the Kuha Karuhas Pavilion for a relatively short window, usually between 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM. Arriving too early or too late means you'll miss the dramatic lighting. I'd recommend starting your journey to Laem Sala Beach by 8:30 AM to allow ample time for the hike or boat ride, and then the final trek up to the cave itself. Morning generally offers cooler temperatures too. What to Wear & Bring: Trust me, you'll want good walking shoes for the hike! The path, especially the final ascent into the cave, is rocky and can be slippery. Light, breathable clothing is a must. Don't forget plenty of water – more than you think you'll need – a hat, and sunscreen. While there are a few vendors at Laem Sala Beach, it's wise to pack some snacks, especially if you plan to spend a while exploring. A small towel can also be handy for wiping off sweat. Hiking vs. Boat Ride – A Deeper Dive: The Hike (to Laem Sala Beach): The article mentions a 30-45 minute trek over a hill. This initial hike from the park entrance to Laem Sala Beach is quite scenic, offering beautiful coastal views, but it is indeed steep in parts. If you're reasonably fit and enjoy a challenge, it's a rewarding start to the adventure. It gives you some fantastic photo opportunities of the coastline before you even reach the main event. The Boat Ride (to Laem Sala Beach): This is the option I chose, and for 150 THB, it was a fantastic way to conserve energy for the real climb to the cave. The short boat trip around the headland offers lovely views from the water and drops you directly onto the beautiful Laem Sala Beach. If you're short on time or want to save your energy, this is definitely the way to go. The Final Ascent to Phraya Nakhon Cave: The article highlights that this hike is tiring, and I can confirm! Even after taking the boat, the climb from Laem Sala Beach up to the cave entrance is steep and consists almost entirely of natural rock steps. There are ropes in some sections to help pull yourself up. Take your time, rest when needed, and remember that the reward at the top is absolutely breathtaking. Seeing that magnificent pavilion drenched in light makes every single step worth the effort. And don't forget the descent – it can be just as challenging on the knees! Beyond the Main Chamber: While the Kuha Karuhas Pavilion is the star, take a moment to look around the cave's multiple chambers. The sheer scale and natural formations are impressive, and the fresh air filtering through the open ceilings is truly unique. You might even spot some unique cave-dwelling flora or fauna. This entire experience, from the journey to the awe-inspiring sight, is something I'll never forget. It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes, the most incredible wonders require a little effort to reach, but the reward is immeasurable.
