I Stayed on a Houseboat in India!

Kerala is the gorgeous tropical state that most foreigners don’t think about visiting! But the Kerala Backwaters was one of the most unforgettable parts of my 3-week trip to India! 🇮🇳 Amazing Indian/seafood, a beautiful sunset, and nothing to do but relax 😌 Book with a tour company, preferably with an A/C room! Traveling through the Kerala Backwaters on a houseboat was one of the most peaceful and culturally immersive experiences I've ever had. What truly makes this trip remarkable is the unique blend of nature and local culture. The houseboats, or "kettuvallams," are traditionally made from wood and bamboo, skillfully crafted without nails, providing an authentic and eco-friendly accommodation. During my stay, I enjoyed waking up to the gentle lapping of water and the sounds of birds in the nearby palm groves. The views were mesmerizing, especially at sunset when the sky turned shades of orange and pink, reflecting beautifully on the still waters. One of the highlights was the incredible fresh seafood meals served onboard—each dish bursting with local spices and flavors. The hospitality of the crew made the experience even more intimate and inviting, with chai served during peaceful moments, enhancing the connection with the environment. To anyone considering this journey, I highly recommend opting for a houseboat with air conditioning, as the climate can be quite humid. Booking through a reputable tour company ensures comfort and safety, allowing you to fully unwind and enjoy the slow pace of life here. The backwaters also offer fascinating glimpses into village life along narrow canals lined with lush vegetation. You might spot fishermen casting nets or local women washing clothes, adding to the authentic charm of the region.
