✈️travel tips & tricks

I LOVE to travel. & I’ve been fortunate enough to travel once a year to some amazing places. I don’t come from money & am VERY budget conscious. So here’s what I do to keep costs down & how you can afford to travel too!

•let your flight dictate your destination: 11 months in advance set alerts on google flights to various dates & places you’d be interested in visiting. Keep an eye on when prices drop & when they take a significant dip that’s when you bite the bullet & buy them!

•be willing to drive to a bigger airport: I don’t live close to an international hub, the closest ones are several hours away. BUT when I found $350 round trip flights to Iceland I absolutely drove the 5 hours to take advantage of that deal!

•get a credit card with travel rewards points: we haven’t bought airline tickets in several years ever since we started using the chase sapphire credit card. **only do this if you are responsible with money & can pay it off every month**

•use Airbnb or booking.com for places to stay: in all my searches these two sites still tend to have the best deals on accommodations. You must read through allllll the reviews though before making any decisions.

•use Priceline for car rental: most people don’t know this secret & I’m kinda scared to put the word out in fear it’ll become too popular, but I’ve used Priceline in multiple states & once in Scotland & they’ve always had the cheapest prices!

•buy snacks at your destination & only eat out once a day: I know this one is hard for the foodies, but it’ll save you a good $50-60 per day if you only eat out once!

Hope this helps & happy travels ✈️♥️

... Read moreTraveling on a budget is an art that anyone can master with the right strategies. One of the first steps is to be flexible with your travel dates; this approach can lead to significant savings on airfare. Websites like Google Flights allow you to set alerts that notify you when flight prices drop, so you can seize the best deals. Additionally, consider whether driving to a larger airport might yield better flight options. It might seem inconvenient, but it can be worth it if you discover greatly reduced fares. When planning accommodations, look beyond standard hotels. Platforms such as Airbnb and Booking.com often provide more affordable and unique lodging options, ensuring that you have a memorable stay without overspending. Prioritize reading reviews from other travelers as they can guide you to the best deals and experiences. Using travel rewards credit cards can dramatically reduce your travel costs, especially if you are disciplined and pay off your balance each month. These cards offer points or miles that can cover a significant portion of your travel expenses over time. While exploring your destination, try to limit dining out to once per day and opt for groceries or snacks to save money. This strategy not only cuts costs but also allows you to experience local grocery stores and markets, giving you a taste of the local culture. Finally, when renting a car, consider using sites like Priceline, which can help you find competitive rates even in unfamiliar locations. With the right planning and these travel hacks, your dream vacation can become a reality without straining your finances!
