✨🫶My Hand Care Routine 🫶✨

Let’s raise the bar with taking care of our hands! The cold season is here and I see some of yall struggling with dry hands. 🥺

I suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in the sense of needing or subconsciously having to organize and wash everything multiple times… including my hands.

My hands hurt and burn and do have scars from the scratching and dryness. So these help me when I need a little pick up.

Another thing I’d like to add is to do oat soaks. Use a table spoon of oats into a big bowl and warm water and soak your hands inside the bowl for 12-15 minutes or more if you want. It’s optional if you want to add rose petals or lavender. 🪻🌹

⚠️⚠️ANOTHER THING ID LIKE TO ADD: when using glycolic acid please use sunscreen meant for sensitive skin !!⚠️⚠️

This routine is especially helpful if you struggle with frequent hand washing that can irritate the skin, like those with conditions such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Start by gently exfoliating your hands with a scrub to remove dead skin and promote smoother texture. Focus on areas that feel rough, such as knuckles or patches prone to dryness. After rinsing and drying your hands, carefully apply glycolic acid on darker or rough spots using a cotton ball. This helps improve skin texture but remember to avoid washing it off afterward to allow proper absorption. Next, deeply nourish your skin with a rich mixture of shea butter and cocoa butter combined with Bag Balm moisturizer. This blend provides intense hydration and helps restore the skin barrier. Coat your hands thoroughly, ensuring all areas are covered. To lock in moisture, wear cotton gloves which are eco-friendly and reusable instead of disposable plastic ones. Leaving gloves on for 15 to 30 minutes or overnight, if possible, significantly boosts hydration and softness. An additional soothing treatment you can try is soaking your hands in warm water mixed with oats for 12–15 minutes. Oats are known for their anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties, making them excellent for irritated skin. You can enhance this soak by adding rose petals or lavender to create a calming, spa-like experience. Since glycolic acid increases photosensitivity, always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen designed for sensitive skin to protect your hands from UV damage. Consistent sun protection is key to preventing pigmentation or worsening of skin conditions. Finally, finish your routine with your favorite hand cream to seal moisture throughout the day. This regimen addresses dryness, cracking, scars from excessive scratching, and sensitivity with practical steps anyone can adapt. With patience and regular care, you’ll enjoy softer, healthier hands ready to take on the colder months.
