Best Meal of the Year?

I hope everyone who celebrates had a lovely Thanksgiving.

While my household celebrates the food and togetherness aspect, we also talk about the reality behind it. How the holiday itself was built on lies and the genocide of First Nations people in America.

It's important to remember the truth so we don't continue to repeat it, but because everyone in my household is given the day off, we still make sure to have good food together.

As only three people (my partner, our roommate, and myself), we try to limit the amount of food we cook as we don't want it to go bad. Last year, we had a whole turkey, and none of us could eat it all before or spoiled.

This year, my roomie requested smothered turkey legs. I request the hassle back squash each year. As a cook who loves the craft, my partner obliged. I helped make the mashed potatoes and the base for the gravy (which was made from the turkey legs... drippings? I don't know the right word for it), but the turkey legs and the more complex aspects of each dish were all my partner's doing.

It was a very tasty meal, and we had enough leftovers that my partner delivered some to his work wife because she's alone this week. In return she gave us some maraschino cherry cookies which I can't eat due to allergies, but I'm assured they're tasty.

The rest of the night was spent gaming with my partner and supporting some fellow Twitch streamers.

Overall, a very nice day with his good and good people.
