✨ One of My Favorite DIY Projects Ever

Still one of my favorite things I’ve ever made. 🤎

I found an old steamer trunk and gave it new life with a mosaic of vintage floral china, sealed beneath a deep layer of epoxy. Now it holds all of my embroidery threads, fabrics, and little creative treasures.

I found that thrift stores and estate sales are treasure troves for unique plates and cups with beautiful patterns that add charm and nostalgia to any craft. When cutting the china into mosaic pieces, I used safety goggles and gloves to protect myself from sharp edges, which is essential for a safe crafting experience. Applying the epoxy resin was a bit challenging but key to creating a durable and glossy finish that preserves the mosaic art underneath. I recommend working in a well-ventilated area and following the resin manufacturer’s instructions carefully to avoid bubbles and ensure proper curing. Once the epoxy hardened, the steamer trunk not only looked stunning but was also sturdy enough to hold all my embroidery supplies and various fabric scraps. This project is ideal for anyone looking to upcycle old furniture and add a vintage touch to their creative space. It combines mosaic art techniques with practical storage solutions, making it both a functional and decorative piece. Sharing this experience, I encourage others to personalize their projects by choosing mosaic materials that reflect their unique tastes or memories, turning simple furniture into meaningful art. Overall, giving a new life to an old steamer trunk with a vintage floral mosaic melded two passions of mine: crafting and sustainability. It’s a fantastic way to honor the beauty of past eras while creating something useful and inspiring for today’s home.
