Relationships should feel balanced and nourishing, not draining or transactional. I learned to recognize when I was overgiving—giving love, time, or support—and not receiving any meaningful emotional return. In those moments, I started practicing saying no or stepping back to focus on myself. Creating these boundaries was challenging at first because I didn’t want to feel like I was abandoning people. However, once I shifted my mindset to value my own needs, I noticed my energy improved and my relationships became healthier. Real connections thrive when mutual respect and genuine care exist. Also, reminding myself daily of my self-worth and values kept me grounded. It helped me stop overextending into cups that wouldn’t fill. Protecting your energy isn’t selfish; it’s necessary for maintaining emotional wellbeing and developing relationships where you’re truly valued.
