Pool time with the fam
We recently had such a fantastic time at the pool, and I wanted to share some of the fun activities we did! Finding ways to keep everyone engaged, especially the little ones, can make all the difference for a memorable family pool day. It's not just about getting wet; it's about making memories and building confidence in the water. For my little one, who was wearing their bright orange swim vest and a swim diaper, we started with simple splash games. Just gently kicking water and singing nursery rhymes made them giggle! We also loved 'Find the Toy' – I'd drop a floating toy a short distance away, and a grown-up would help our child paddle towards it. It’s amazing how these small interactions build confidence and make family pool time truly special. Watching them reach for a toy with such determination on a sunny day is just priceless. As children get a bit older, or if you have older kids, pool noodle races are always a hit. Everyone gets a noodle and tries to 'paddle' across the pool using only their arms, or by sitting on the noodle and kicking. Another classic is 'Red Light, Green Light' in the shallow end – simple, but always good for a laugh. We also love playing 'Marco Polo,' which is perfect for all ages and doesn't require any equipment. It’s a fantastic way to get everyone interacting and moving in the swimming pool. Sometimes we just let our imaginations run wild! We pretend the pool is an ocean and look for 'treasure' (diving toys), or create a 'waterfall' by splashing water over the edge. Building a 'pool fort' with kickboards and noodles on the side is surprisingly fun too, offering a little shade and a 'secret base' for the kids. These creative games really spark joy and make the pool feel like a whole new adventure. It's not always about structured games; sometimes it's just about enjoying the moment together. The sunny day and the refreshing water make for the perfect backdrop for simply floating, chatting, and splashing gently. I've found that even just holding a child and letting them feel the water, or doing simple 'swimming lessons' where they kick their legs, counts as fantastic family pool time. The key is just being present and having fun. Remember to always prioritize safety, especially with young children. Keeping them in a comfortable swim vest, like the one my child uses, and having an adult constantly supervising is key. Don't forget the sunscreen and plenty of hydration too! What are your favorite family swimming pool activities? I'm always looking for new ideas to make our pool days even better!
