From my personal experience, the journey isn't always linear or easy. There are days that feel worse than ever, where the urge to escape life or when dealing with issues like rapid weight loss becomes overwhelming. However, sobriety brings clarity and a deeper understanding of oneself, even if it sometimes feels like being "a lame person" compared to the days before. What many don’t realize is that sobriety is not just about abstaining from substances but about embracing a new lifestyle that often demands patience and self-compassion. The transformation isn't only physical but also mental and emotional. It requires support from communities, whether online hashtags like #SOBER or in-person groups that remind you that you are not alone. In my own journey, the two photos comparing my appearance before and after becoming sober tell a powerful story. The first photo might show a version of myself that looked fine on the outside, but underneath, there were struggles to cope. The second photo, taken while sober, reflects not just a physical change but the beginning of healing and self-acceptance. Sobriety may come with feelings of being less lively or fun, but it offers the invaluable gift of living life authentically and with intention. If you find yourself battling similar feelings, remember that it’s okay to have hard days. What matters is seeking help, sharing your story, and acknowledging the courage it takes to choose sobriety every day. Life worth living is a process, and sobriety is a powerful step toward reclaiming it.
