Witches' Ball - GRWM
So many layers and yet not as many as a lady would wear in the 1870s (the decade that inspired this silhouette).
Getting ready for a Victorian Crystal Ball is truly an enchanting experience, and it's all about those intricate layers to achieve that perfect 1870s silhouette. When I start my GRWM, the first step is essential: putting on a corset over a slip. This really sets the foundation for the entire look, cinching the waist and providing that classic Victorian shape. It’s amazing how transformative it feels! Next up is the bustle cage over drawers, which is absolutely crucial for creating that dramatic rear volume characteristic of the era. You wouldn't believe the difference it makes! Then comes the petticoat, adding even more fullness and ensuring the skirt drapes beautifully. Each layer builds upon the last, contributing to the overall grandeur. For the main garment, I chose a stunning taffeta skirt that rustles delightfully with every movement. The tie up and drape overskirt adds another dimension, allowing for custom styling and a touch of artistic flair. But a Victorian Crystal Ball look isn't complete without the details. I always make sure to include period-appropriate accessories like a chatelaine, which is both functional and decorative, hanging elegantly from the waist. My purse, though small, is essential for carrying necessities. For a touch of color and sparkle, I adore my beetlewing green earrings – they catch the light so beautifully! And, of course, the grand finale is the feathered bertha, which I save for last, putting it on once I'm out of the car to avoid any crushing. Preparing for such an event, whether it's a themed Witches' Ball or a historical re-enactment, transports you to another time. It's more than just dressing up; it's about embodying the elegance and mystery of the Victorian era. If you’re planning your own Victorian-inspired event or just love historical fashion, paying attention to these layers and accessories will truly make your look shine!
