I have recently started trying to come up with a body skincare routine considering how much I put into my facial skincare. All of these products can be found at either Target or Ulta (Including the silicone body scrubber)!
•Sweet Spot Labs body cleanser is my absolute favorite! I have dry skin and eczema so I need something gentle for my skin. It’s so creamy and a little goes a looong way because the lather is so great.
•Tree Hut’s strawberry sugar scrub smells very good (an artificial strawberry scent but good nonetheless) but I think that is the best part of it. I don’t really personally love sugar scrubs because they feel very abrasive and just don’t feel worth the hassle. I will say however, that it does leave my skin feeling a lot bit softer.
•Wild deodorant is a bit harder to review seeing as it is a refillable container and you can pick different scents and stuff, but I got the pumpkin spice scent- sensitive version. I like it and I think I would compare it to native deodorant. I find that this deodorant is longer lasting with a much more subtle scent. Aluminum free deodorant can be a real hit or miss but I would say it’s pretty good but it doesn’t really compare to an antiperspirant.
•Bella Rose body butter is so very soft! It smells like that artificial watermelon candy scent but I don’t mind it. When I first received it I was so shocked at how lightweight the container was that I made my whole family hold it. It is very airy but still quite nice and moisturizing.
... Read moreAfter sharing my recent empties, I realized how much thought goes into building a body care routine that truly works for *me*. It's not just about what smells good, but what genuinely benefits my skin. If you're like me and constantly on the hunt for effective products, especially with specific concerns like dry skin or eczema, here are some deeper dives into how I approach evaluating and choosing my personal care items.
Decoding Body Cleansers: More Than Just Soap
When it comes to body cleansers, I used to just grab whatever was on sale. But with my dry, eczema-prone skin, I quickly learned that not all cleansers are created equal. My top pick, like the pH-balancing creamy full body cleanser I mentioned, really highlights what to look for. pH balance is crucial; harsh soaps can strip your skin's natural barrier, leading to dryness and irritation. Look for terms like 'pH-balanced,' 'fragrance-free' (if you're super sensitive), or 'for dry/sensitive skin.' Ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or colloidal oatmeal are huge bonuses for hydration and soothing. It's about finding that sweet spot that cleans without making your skin feel tight or itchy afterwards.
Exfoliation Station: Gentle is Key
My experience with the strawberry shea sugar scrub, while enjoyable for its scent, reminded me that physical exfoliants can sometimes be a bit too aggressive. If you have sensitive or dry skin, consider how often you're exfoliating and the type of scrub you're using. Sugar scrubs are popular, but if they feel too abrasive, you might want to switch to a finer grain or even explore chemical exfoliants in a body wash or lotion format. These can gently resurface the skin without the physical scrubbing action. Or, if you love a good scrub, try applying it to damp, not soaking wet, skin to reduce friction, and always follow up with a great moisturizer. The goal is smooth skin, not red, irritated skin!
Navigating the World of Deodorants: Aluminum-Free Insights
Switching to aluminum-free deodorant, like the refillable one I've been using, has been a journey. It’s definitely a different experience than antiperspirants. The main thing to remember is that aluminum-free options don't stop you from sweating; they work to neutralize odor. There's often a 'detox' period where your body adjusts, and you might feel sweatier or smellier initially. Don't give up too soon! Look for ingredients like magnesium hydroxide or charcoal. Scent is also a big factor – I loved the subtle pumpkin spice, but finding a scent you enjoy that doesn't irritate your skin is important. Refillable options are a bonus for sustainability, which is something I'm trying to incorporate more into my routine.
Body Butter Bliss: Hydration That Lasts
Finally, let's talk about moisturizing. The whipped shea butter I reviewed was a dream because of its airy texture yet effective hydration. When choosing a body butter, consider your skin's needs. If you have very dry skin, look for rich ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, or mango butter. For something lighter but still deeply moisturizing, whipped formulas or those with emollients like squalane or jojoba oil are fantastic. I find that applying body butter right after stepping out of the shower, when my skin is still a little damp, helps lock in moisture best. Don't forget areas prone to dryness like elbows, knees, and shins. It’s all about finding that luxurious feel that keeps your skin soft and supple all day long.
By consciously evaluating products based on ingredients, texture, and how they interact with my skin, I've built a body care routine that truly nourishes. It takes a bit of trial and error, but finding those holy grail products makes all the difference!
