... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to expand on my passion for creating Murder Drones OCs, especially after sharing my latest art piece. I know a lot of you are probably wondering how I come up with these designs or what makes an OC truly feel like they belong in the Murder Drones universe. So, I wanted to share a bit more about my process and some tips for anyone looking to create their own awesome Murder Drones original character art!
When I started thinking about my latest OC, the first thing I considered was their backstory. Are they a Worker Drone who somehow survived, or perhaps a Disassembly Drone with a unique purpose? For this particular OC, I imagined them as a modified Worker Drone, perhaps Unit 108, who developed a surprising level of combat capability after an encounter with a Disassembly Drone. This gives them a rich foundation for their personality and visual design. I always find that having a solid personal history helps shape everything from their posture to their expressions in the art.
Next up is the visual design – arguably the most fun part of creating Murder Drones OC art! I love playing around with the established aesthetics of the show. Are they sleek and menacing like a Disassembly Drone, or do they have the more utilitarian, almost vulnerable look of a Worker Drone? My OC blends elements of both. I focused on making their 'eyes' (or optical sensors) really expressive, as that's such a key feature in the series. I also spent time thinking about their modifications – perhaps a unique weapon arm or enhanced plating – that hint at their past experiences. When sketching, I often look at official character designs for inspiration on proportions and how details like wires and vents are handled, but then I try to put my own spin on it to make my OC stand out.
I usually start with a rough sketch to get the pose and basic silhouette down. Then, I move to line art, refining details like battle damage or unique accessories. For coloring, I really pay attention to the metallic sheen that's characteristic of the Murder Drones world. Layering colors and using highlights and shadows carefully helps give that distinct, gritty yet polished look. I primarily use Procreate for my digital art, experimenting with different brushes to get the textures just right.
If you're thinking of creating your own Murder Drones OC art, here are a few things I've learned that might help:
Define their role: What do they do in the world? Are they a hunter, a survivor, a rogue? This helps inform their design.
Personality is key: Even if they're machines, the Murder Drones characters have strong personalities. Give your OC a unique trait or two.
Study the show's style: Pay attention to the animation style, lighting, and character proportions. You don't have to copy it, but understanding it helps your OC fit in.
Don't be afraid to experiment: Try different head shapes, body types, and modifications. The most unique OCs often come from pushing boundaries.
Share your progress! The Murder Drones fan community is fantastic, and getting feedback can be incredibly motivating and helpful.
Creating Murder Drones OC art is more than just drawing; it's about building a story and a character that resonates. I hope this deeper dive into my creative process inspires some of you to start your own Murder Drones OC projects! Can't wait to see what amazing characters you all come up with!
