This is not a critique of ppl engaged in this right now to highlight actual genuine hypocrisy and bias, it is a proposal for better ways to produce effective coalitions
Understanding and addressing complex social and political issues often involves navigating deeply entrenched biases and challenges that can hinder coalition-building. The phrase "Why aren't you talking about..." frequently arises in discussions, reflecting frustrations about selective attention to certain issues while others are overlooked. This tendency to focus narrowly can fragment movements and dilute their impact. Effective coalitions should embrace an inclusive approach that connects various struggles under the broader frameworks of imperialism and capitalism — systems that often underpin diverse injustices globally. For example, acknowledging the plight of Palestinians is crucial, yet it should be connected thoughtfully with other issues such as injustices in Myanmar, Bangladesh, and the ways global powers leverage alliances for strategic advantages. A respectful, informed dialogue is essential where participants seek to understand the complex systemic nature of global conflicts rather than engaging in blame or division. It's about building synergy where different groups recognize their aligned interests against oppressive systems without undermining each other. This includes confronting racism within specific communities and broadening awareness to issues that may receive less attention but are equally important. Moreover, avoiding the 'nasty game' of blame-shifting and instead crafting coalitions based on empathy and a shared vision can amplify the power of collective action. By focusing on connections rather than differences, movements can challenge imperial arms systems and capitalist frameworks more effectively. Ultimately, better coalition-building requires listening attentively, educating oneself on interconnected global issues, and uniting diverse perspectives into a cohesive force for social change. Recognizing the wide reach of systemic oppression, and working collaboratively to dismantle it, offers hope for more equitable and just outcomes worldwide.
