เมื่อพูดถึงของกินหน้าโรงเรียน หลายคนคงนึกถึงความทรงจำแสนสนุกในวัยเรียน ที่ไม่ได้มีแค่เพื่อนและการเรียนรู้ แต่ยังมีอาหารเล็กๆ น้อยๆ ที่ช่วยเติมเต็มความสุขในแต่ละวัน จากประสบการณ์ตรง ผมจำได้ดีว่าการได้ซื้อไก่ทอดเสียบไม้ หรือเครปแผ่นใหญ่จากแม่ค้าแถวนั้นในช่วงพักเที่ยวนั้นเป็นความสุขเล็กๆ ที่เรียบง่ายแต่ทรงพลังมาก แป้งเครปกรอบบาง ราดด้วยซอสหวานๆ ปนเปรี้ยว เหมือนเป็นของว่างที่เติมพลังก่อนไปเรียนต่อ หรือแม้แต่ขนมโตเกียวที่ปัจจุบันอาจจะมีขนาดเล็กลง แต่รสชาติก็ยังคงชวนให้นึกถึงอดีตได้อยู่ดี อีกอย่างที่ขาดไม่ได้คือ "น้ำอัดลมใส่ถุง" ที่หลายคนอาจมองว่าเป็นเรื่องธรรมดา แต่ในความเรียบง่ายนั้นแฝงด้วยความสนุกและความสดชื่นที่ได้มากับการหิ้วถุงน้ำอัดลมเดินกลับบ้านพร้อมเพื่อนๆ ตัวซองเล็กๆ กับหลอดน้ำที่ปักไว้ตรงกลางกลายเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของการกินอย่างน่าเอ็นดูในวัยเด็ก เมนูเหล่านี้แม้ในปัจจุบันจะมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงหรือมีตัวเลือกมากขึ้น แต่ก็ยังคงเสน่ห์และความหมายในใจของผู้ที่เคยสัมผัส ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่ไม่สามารถถูกแทนที่ได้ง่ายๆ ที่สำคัญคือราคาที่ถูกมาก เพียง 20-30 บาท ก็ทำให้ความทรงจำวันเก่าๆ กลับมาเต็มเปี่ยมอีกครั้ง นอกจากนี้ การกินของกินหน้าโรงเรียนยังเป็นเรื่องที่คนไทยหลายคนต่างชื่นชอบและผูกพันที่สะท้อนถึงวัฒนธรรมในโรงเรียนและชุมชนหนึ่งๆ อย่างชัดเจน สำหรับเด็กยุคก่อน สมกับคำว่า "ความสุขที่ซื้อได้ด้วยเงินไม่กี่บาท" ที่ยังคงอยู่ในใจทุกคนเสมอ
