🍊Pomander Balls have multiple uses, first seen during medieval times, worn as an amulet to ward off sickness, hexes and generally to smell nice. Pomander is a French word meaning “Pommes for Apple” or “Apple of Amber”. Time ago made of metals, ambergris, and spices. It was not till Victorian times did it evolve into the orange and clove studded amulets of today.
It’s made several different ways, however my grandmother made it to ward off the “malocchio” stuffing it with bay leaves, pepper corns and other spices before stud-ing the orange with cloves.
