Meet my very first houseplant…a spotted begonia I found on the clearance rack at Walmart today for just $5! 🛒✨ She was looking a little crispy and sad, and I couldn’t leave her behind.
Here’s what I did to start reviving her:
✔️ Trimmed off the dried part of leaves ✂️
✔️ Straightened the support poles so she can stand tall again
✔️ Gave her a deep watering 💧
✔️ Put her outside where she gets bright indirect so she get plenty of light to recover but doesn’t crisp up
Once she starts looking healthier again
I figured maybe sometimes the best plants aren’t the prettiest ones on the shelf, but the ones that with a little love, turn into beauties.

These bargains often appear wilted or crispy, but with a little TLC, they can bounce back beautifully. The spotted begonia, known for its uniquely patterned leaves, requires special care to thrive.
First, it’s essential to assess the plant’s condition. Trim away dried or damaged leaves to prevent disease and encourage new growth. Straightening support poles aids structural stability, allowing the plant to stand upright as it recovers. Deep watering is crucial, but be careful not to overwater; begonias prefer moist but well-drained soil.
Light plays a vital role in rehabilitation. Placing the plant in a greenhouse or near a bright window ensures it gets sufficient indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can be too harsh and cause further leaf damage. Humidity is also important—begonias enjoy moderate humidity, so misting the leaves or using a humidity tray can help.
Be patient as the begonia starts to look healthier. New leaf growth often signals recovery. Remember that clearance plants might need more attention due to previous neglect, but with love and proper care, they become charming additions to your plant collection.
In addition to saving money, rescuing plants contributes to sustainability by reducing waste. Giving a discounted plant a second chance supports eco-friendly gardening practices and yields the joy of nurturing something back to life. If you spot a clearance plant that tugs at your heartstrings, it’s worth the effort to bring it home and watch it flourish.
Fun! I have a couple of those. 💚
