W Wise men.
Matthew 2:10-11 is a verse that always captivates my heart, bringing such a feeling of wonder and devotion. When I read about the wise men seeing the star and being 'overjoyed,' I can almost feel their excitement after such a long journey. It’s not just a historical account; it’s a powerful testament to seeking and finding God, and the sheer joy that comes with it. For me, this passage isn't just about three kings or astrologers from the East; it's about anyone who earnestly seeks truth and is willing to go the distance for it. These wise men weren't Jewish, yet they followed a divine sign – a star – that led them to the Messiah. Their dedication to finding the newborn King, even crossing vast distances, is incredibly inspiring. Imagine the anticipation building up with each passing day, each step closer to their destination! Their perseverance in the face of uncertainty is a huge lesson for me. It reminds me that sometimes, the journey of faith requires patience and unwavering trust in the signs God provides. And then, when they finally arrived, they didn't just casually observe. They 'bowed down and worshiped him.' This act of humility and adoration, despite their own probable status and the hardships of their travel, speaks volumes. It reminds me that true worship isn't about our position in life, but about recognizing the divine majesty in Jesus, even as a child with his mother Mary. The fact that they worshipped Him with such reverence, without hesitation, truly underlines the profound impact this encounter had on them. It wasn't just curiosity; it was deep spiritual recognition. What truly sticks with me are the gifts they presented: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These weren't just any presents; they were precious treasures, each carrying deep symbolic meaning. Gold, fit for a king, acknowledged Jesus's royalty and sovereignty. Frankincense, a fragrant resin used in priestly offerings and worship, pointed to his divine nature and future role as our great High Priest, interceding for us. And myrrh, an aromatic gum used for embalming, subtly but powerfully foreshadowed his eventual suffering and death, fulfilling his purpose as redeemer. Thinking about these gifts, I often reflect on what 'treasures' I am offering in my own life – not just material things, but my time, talents, and devotion. Are they truly my best? Am I giving generously and thoughtfully, much like these wise men? This verse encourages me to be a seeker, much like the wise men. To keep my eyes open for God's guidance, whether it's a clear sign or a quiet prompting in my heart. And when I find Him, or feel His presence, to respond with genuine joy and worship, offering my best in return. It’s a beautiful blueprint for a life of faith, reminding us to always be ready to 'bow down and worship him' with open hearts and generous spirits, celebrating the incredible gift of salvation.
