Animes to fall asleep to ~ Part One 🌸✨

Hey besties!! 👋🏾😊So guys here is part one of a few of my comfort animes that I like to watch when I just can’t get to sleep or need to relax after a long day

📺 Frieren: Beyond Journeys End (sub/dub)

💐 Where to watch: Crunchy Roll

🌙 Plot: An elf and her friends defeat a demon king in a great war. But the war is over, and the elf must search for a new way of life.

⭐️ Why I love it: Great world building, wholesome characters. Animation is top tier. Pacing is great and the music is 👩🏾‍🍳😘

📺 The Masterful Cat is depressed again today (Sub)

💐 Where to watch: Crunchy Roll

🌙 Plot: An anime about a giant cat that cleans, cooks and is better at adulting than the woman who found him? 🤣 Saku is an ordinary office worker who took in a stray black cat who she later named yukichi. She soon discovers that yukichi is no ordinary cat.

⭐️ Why I love it: Great food shots, beautiful and simple animation, relatable main characters. Wholesome slice of life anime that resembles the all too familiar pet/owner relationship

💐 Where to watch: Netflix

🌙 Plot: A lonely little boy moves into a ramshackle apartment building all on his own and makes friends with the broke manga artist who lives next door. A sad plot but a wholesome story.

📺 Kiki’s Delivery Service (sub/dub)

💐 Where to watch: Max, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, YouTube

🌙 Plot: This movie follows Kiki a witch who at 13 moves to a seaside town and starts a delivery service with her cat companion jiji .

... Read moreHey everyone! 👋 Building on my last post about animes I love to fall asleep to, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into why certain shows work so well for winding down, and maybe give you a few more ideas for your own bedtime routine. It’s all about finding that perfect blend of calm and captivating, without anything too intense that keeps your brain buzzing. For me, the best 'sleepy time' animes usually have a few things in common. First, gentle pacing is key. You don't want anything with super intense action sequences or cliffhangers every five minutes. Slice-of-life genres are often perfect for this. Think about shows where the biggest drama is a misplaced item or a misunderstanding between friends – low stakes, high comfort! The original article mentioned 'The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today,' which is a prime example of this. Watching a giant cat like Yukichi handle daily chores is just so surprisingly soothing. Another big factor is calming visuals and soothing music. Animes with soft color palettes and beautiful, ambient soundtracks can really help your mind relax. I find that Ghibli movies, like 'Kiki's Delivery Service' with its charming seaside town and Kiki's journey, excel at this. The art style is just so warm and comforting, and the music is truly magic. Even shows like 'Frieren: Beyond Journey's End,' while it has its moments, often features incredible landscapes and a sense of quiet reflection that makes it perfect for winding down. Wholesome and heartwarming themes are also a must. I tend to avoid anything too dark, scary, or emotionally draining right before bed. Instead, I look for stories that leave me feeling good. 'Kotaro Lives Alone,' despite its poignant moments, ultimately has a heartwarming core about community and finding family. It makes you feel a gentle warmth, rather than leaving you stressed. If you're looking for other genres, I often lean towards Iyashikei (healing anime) or certain fantasy slice-of-life series. Iyashikei anime are specifically designed to have a calming effect on the viewer, often focusing on beautiful scenery, simple everyday life, and pleasant interactions. They're like a warm hug for your brain. For example, 'Mushishi' with its episodic nature and focus on nature's mysteries, or 'Natsume's Book of Friends' with its gentle Yokai encounters, are often cited as great options. Even some shows with a touch of magic, like those featuring a young witch on a broomstick, can be incredibly relaxing if they focus more on daily life than grand adventures. My personal tip? Try to find shows that don't require your full, undivided attention to follow the plot. Sometimes, having something gentle playing in the background can be more effective than complete silence. It gives your mind just enough to focus on without becoming overstimulated. And don't be afraid to rewatch old favorites! There's a special comfort in knowing what's coming, which can be super relaxing. What kinds of shows do you find yourself drifting off to? I'd love to hear your recommendations for other 'sleepy time' anime gems!
