Ever just need a song, not advice? 🫖

The kettle clicked off.

Steam rose in spirals, fading fast.

Lofi didn’t move.

The mug was already warm in her hands—

but the heat stayed at her fingertips, never reaching her chest.

The tea bag floated, unbothered, string curled against the ceramic lip.

She didn’t sip. Just watched the color bloom like bruises in slow motion.

Rain tapped the window.

Twelve drops before she blinked.

At the record store, the lights hummed louder than usual.

Or maybe the silence underneath was deeper.

She flipped the “open” sign with muscle memory, not intention.

Her laptop stayed shut under the counter,

audio software untouched.

She told herself she’d open it at lunch.

She wouldn’t.

The vinyls sat alphabetized, untouched.

She adjusted the incense holder twice, then didn’t light it.

A stack of beat requests blinked on her phone.

She swiped them away.

She dusted the piano keys in the back room.

Then turned the keyboard to face the wall.

Around noon, a girl walked in.

Hood up.

Eyes puffy but polite.

She drifted between shelves like her thoughts were louder than the music.

Lofi stayed behind the counter.

The girl stopped near the ambient section, then turned.

“You made that song about breathing, right?”

Her voice didn’t waver. It folded inward.

Soft, like she wasn’t sure she was allowed to ask.

Lofi nodded.

“I listened to it the night I quit my job,”

“Didn’t fix anything. But it… gave me space to fall apart.”

She looked down.

“I’m not okay yet. But that helped.”

Lofi’s fingers curled around the edge of the counter.

She didn’t say thank you.

Didn’t say I haven’t made anything in ten days.

She just said,

“Want to hear something new?”

The back room smelled like lavender dust and warmed vinyl.

Lofi pulled the cloth from the keyboard.

She didn’t plug in her interface.

Didn’t hit record.

She just sat.

And let her fingers move.

No melody.

Just space.

A few scattered chords like steps across water.

The girl sat on the floor. Hugged her knees.

Her breathing matched the rhythm.

When the music stopped, she didn’t say anything.

She stood, nodded once, and walked out—

vinyl in hand,

head a little higher.

That night, Lofi brewed another cup.

This time, she drank it.

Before the warmth escaped.

She opened her journal.

“I didn’t need to be better today.

I just needed to not lie about it.”

She flipped her laptop open.

Paused at the blank project window.

Then opened a new one.

No template. No samples.

She played two chords.

Let them stretch.

Added nothing.

She uploaded the track with no name.

No tags. No caption.

Just breath.

Before bed, she renamed the file:

“Cold Tea.”

And this time,

she sipped before it could go cold again.

The End.

... Read moreIn a world where everyone seems to have an opinion or advice, sometimes what we need most is simply a song that resonates with our emotions. The concept of finding peace through music is beautifully illustrated in this narrative, highlighting the impact of music on our mental well-being. Lofi's experience echoes a common sentiment: that in times of distress, we may not require solutions, but rather a space to feel understood and an opportunity to release our pent-up emotions. Lofi's decision to play without recording also signifies an important point about creativity; sometimes, it’s not about the end product, but the act of creation itself. Many artists struggle with the pressure to produce something 'perfect' and instead, lose sight of the joy inherent in the process. This simple act of playing two chords serves as a reminder that art can be spontaneous and healing, without the constraints typically placed by external expectations. Moreover, the intimacy of shared moments, like the girl sitting on the floor matching her breathing with Lofi's soft notes, portrays how music can build connections between people during vulnerable moments. It narrates how sound can fill the silent void we often feel during difficult times, encouraging listeners to embrace their feelings without fear of judgment. As Lofi ends her day with reflective writing, she illustrates the significance of acknowledging one’s current state without the urgency to change it. Her journey depicts how, amidst the noise of life’s chaos, finding your own rhythm—both literally and figuratively—can provide solace. In conclusion, this tender narrative reminds us that sometimes we just need a song, not advice, to navigate through life’s storms. Allowing music to speak to us can often be the most comforting refuge, gently guiding us back to ourselves.

The worst advice I ever got about healing
Some advice sounds helpful… until you realize it’s keeping you stuck. Healing isn’t loud. It’s not dramatic. It’s not something you “get over.” It’s something you slowly learn to walk through. Every time you listen to your emotions instead of suppressing them — that’s healing. Every time
