POOL DAY ESSENTIALS
Is it even a vacation if your hotel/AirBNB doesn’t have a pool ? Well of course it is but a pool would make it 1000% better. So if in your travels you happen to come across a pool , here are some essentials !!
1) A good book! There is nothing like lounging by the pool with a great book. I’m currently ready Black Friend by Ziwe ! Go get itttt !
2) Sunglasses. Let’s be real the sun is bright & our eyes need protection. (This is from someone who has only taken eye health seriously for like 3 months😂)
3) Sunscreen. YES YOU CAN STILL BURN UNDER WATER. Be sure to apply atleast 20 minutes before & reapply throughout the day.
4) Aftersun! My fave is anything with an aloe base. I’m obsessed with this aloe tea tree mix from Cozea .
5) WATA. Of course . Or water if your not fun (or in Jamaica lol) just stay hydrated. That’s it that’s all !

Okay, so we've covered the absolute basics for a fantastic pool day – and honestly, those five items are truly non-negotiable! But as someone who practically lives by the water whenever I can, I've picked up a few more tips and tricks (and essentials!) that can truly elevate your poolside experience from great to unforgettable. Trust me, a little extra prep goes a long way! First off, let's talk more about that sunscreen. You heard it right, you can burn even underwater! I always opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and water-resistant is a must. My personal hack? I apply my first layer before I even put on my swimsuit, letting it really sink into my skin for about 20 minutes. Then, I keep a small, travel-sized tube handy for reapplication every two hours, or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating. Don't forget those tricky spots like the tops of your feet, ears, and scalp line – I've learned that the hard way! And while WATA (or water!) is king for hydration, sometimes you need a little extra boost. Especially when lounging in the sun, electrolytes can be your best friend. I love to pack a few electrolyte packets to mix into my water bottle, or even better, some refreshing fruit like watermelon or oranges. They're packed with water and natural sugars, giving you a delicious way to stay energized without reaching for sugary sodas that can actually dehydrate you. Now, beyond the basics, what else makes my pool days perfect? 6. A Stellar Pool Bag! Seriously, a good bag can make or break your convenience. I swear by a large, waterproof (or at least water-resistant) tote. It keeps my towel from getting sandy, protects my book, and gives me a dedicated spot for all my essentials. Look for one with external pockets for quick access to sunscreen or your phone. 7. Comfy & Practical Footwear. Sure, you might be barefoot in the pool, but what about getting there and walking around the deck? A pair of easy-to-slip-on flip-flops or stylish slides are a must. They protect your feet from hot surfaces, potential splinters, and keep you from slipping on wet tiles. 8. Hair Protection (Especially for Swimmers!). If you're planning on actually getting your hair wet (and who isn't?), chlorine and salt water can be harsh. I always tie my hair up in a high bun or braid, and sometimes I even wet it with fresh water and apply a little leave-in conditioner before getting in the pool. This creates a barrier, helping to minimize damage. A wide-brimmed hat is also a stylish way to protect your scalp and face from the sun when you're just lounging. 9. Smart Snacks. Lounging can make you surprisingly hungry! Instead of relying on expensive poolside snacks, I pack my own. Think easy-to-eat fruits, granola bars, or even some pre-cut veggies with hummus. They're light, refreshing, and give you sustained energy without feeling heavy. 10. A Waterproof Phone Pouch/Case. We all want to capture those vacation memories, but water and electronics don't mix! Investing in a good quality waterproof phone pouch means you can snap photos without fear, or even listen to music with waterproof earphones without worrying about splashes. Just double-check it's sealed properly before you trust it with your precious device! These additions might seem small, but they truly add up to a more comfortable, protected, and ultimately, more enjoyable pool day. So next time you're packing for your getaway, consider adding these to your "pool essentials" list – your future self will thank you!
