One of the highlights was touring the Historic Hunterfly Road Houses. These preserved homes offer a rare glimpse into the daily lives of free Black individuals in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It’s incredibly powerful to stand in rooms where history was made, imagining the families who built lives and fostered a vibrant community against all odds. Each house tells a story of self-reliance and determination, and the guides do an excellent job of making the history accessible and engaging. But Weeksville isn't just about looking back; it's actively building community today. I've been fortunate enough to attend several fantastic events there. For instance, the BlackGirl Book Fest was an absolute joy! Seeing so many people gather to celebrate and AMPLIFY BLACK LITERATURE was inspiring.
