Cafe & Bookstore in Brooklyn | Things to do in NYC
Looking for things to do in New York City? Look no further !
this is a three in one ! It’s a cafe, bar, and a bookstore. I’m usually here just browsing the books. But there are always people working on laptops when I visit. Keep in mind that there is limited seating so get there early to secure a spot.
The books are second hand so you can cross some things off of your TBR for a fraction of the price.
It is located in Bushwick . It’s is just a short walk from the M train at Central Ave .
This is definitely what I call a hole in the wall. If you know you know. Chances are even if you are a New York local you probably haven’t visited yet. But it is definitely worth checking out!

Walking into Molasses Books always feels like stepping into a little secret world. It’s not your typical pristine bookstore; it has that wonderful, lived-in charm that only a truly great used bookstore can offer. The soft hum of conversations, the clinking of coffee cups, and the gentle rustle of pages – it’s an atmosphere that just draws you in. I've spent hours here, sometimes just browsing, sometimes catching up on emails with a coffee in hand. If you're looking for a quiet spot to get some work done, try to get there earlier in the day, especially on weekdays, as those coveted seating spots fill up quickly! I've learned that lesson the hard way. There's a clear sign, as you enter, that says 'PLEASE ORDER/PURCHASE BEFORE GRABBING A SEAT!', which is a good heads-up for first-timers. The book selection is truly a treasure hunt. You never know what you'll find, from classic literature to quirky non-fiction and even some graphic novels. What I love most is the affordability; as the original post mentioned, you can tick off your TBR list for a fraction of the price. I once found a first edition of a book I'd been hunting for ages, for less than what a new paperback would cost! The sign 'ALL BOOKS ARE PRICED ON first PAGE' makes it super easy to check prices quickly. And don't forget to check out the 'FREE BOOKS' box right outside – I've snagged some unexpected gems from there too! It's a fantastic way to discover new authors or revisit old favorites without breaking the bank. Beyond the books, the cafe and bar aspect truly elevates Molasses Books. Whether you need a strong coffee to kickstart your browsing session or a beer to unwind after a long day, they've got you covered. It's a great spot for a casual date, a solo reading adventure, or just meeting up with a friend for a chat. The bar offers a cozy, intimate setting in the evenings, making it a unique alternative to your standard Brooklyn bar scene. It’s rare to find a place that successfully blends all three, but Molasses Books nails it, creating a community hub where everyone feels welcome. Located just a short walk from the Central Ave M train stop, it's easily accessible but still feels off the beaten path – truly a hidden gem in Bushwick. It's the kind of place that embodies the creative and independent spirit of the neighborhood. If you’re a New Yorker looking for something beyond the typical tourist spots, or just a book lover seeking your next literary adventure, this place is a must-visit. It’s more than just a bookstore; it’s an experience, a community space, and a testament to the enduring charm of physical books and good company. I always leave feeling inspired and with a new book (or two!) in hand.
