Everyone talks about glowing up like you’re a project like you’re something to be fixed like the version of you right now isn’t enough but what if you were never meant to be measured like that

It’s funny, isn’t it? How often we find ourselves staring into a mirror, critically dissecting every perceived flaw. I know I used to. For years, my reflection felt like a judge, constantly reminding me of all the ways I wasn't 'enough.' The idea of a 'glow up' always felt like a project, a never-ending task to fix something inherently broken within me. It’s a common feeling, this unease with our own mirror reflections, sometimes even feeling like a 'reflection mirror devil' whispering doubts. We're bombarded with images of perfection, and our own image rarely seems to measure up. But what if, as the powerful words from an image I once saw reminded me, 'YOU WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE MEASURED NEVER MEANT TO BE FIXED YOU ARE NOT A MIRROR'S REFLECTION YOU ARE THE LIGHT THAT BENDS IT.' This concept completely shifted my perspective. It made me realize that my relationship with the mirror was all wrong. I was allowing a flat piece of glass to define my entire worth. I started to understand that this feeling of 'I don't like mirror' moments wasn't about my appearance; it was about the stories I was telling myself. The mirror itself isn't the problem; it's our interpretation, the societal pressures we internalize, and the constant urge to compare. We spend so much time focusing on the 'before' in hopes of an 'after,' forgetting that we are whole and constantly evolving, even in our 'becoming.' So, how do we change this? For me, it started with conscious effort. When I looked in the mirror, instead of immediately looking for flaws, I tried to focus on one thing I appreciated. It wasn't about vanity; it was about retraining my brain. I also realized that my 'reflection in the mirror' was just a momentary snapshot, not the full, vibrant, complex person I am. My kindness, my laughter, my resilience – none of that shows up in a reflection. If you, like me, sometimes struggle with your mirror reflections, remember this profound truth: you are not what you see. You are what you make others feel. You are the energy, the love, the light that radiates from within. That light literally bends the mirror! It's not about achieving a perfect 'glow up' to satisfy some external standard, but about recognizing the inherent beauty and completeness that is already within you. Let go of the pressure to be a 'before and after' story. Embrace the 'now.' You are already enough, and you always have been.
