Winner Rule #1: Never explain your moves.

#2tomorrow

2/23 Edited to

... Read moreIn many competitive environments, from business to gaming and even social interactions, revealing the reasoning behind your moves often backfires. I've found through personal experience that when you avoid explaining your decisions, others are left guessing — which can create a psychological advantage. For instance, in chess or strategic board games, opponents who don't understand why you made a particular move may hesitate or miscalculate, giving you a better chance to capitalize on their uncertainty. Another benefit of this approach is maintaining control over the narrative. When you explain your moves, you risk opening yourself up to criticism or pressure to justify them, which can undermine your confidence. By staying silent or ambiguous, you project confidence and unpredictability, qualities that often intimidate competitors. This tactic also applies in professional settings, like negotiations or presentations. If you explain each step or strategy, you might inadvertently give away key insights or weaken your bargaining position. Keeping your moves under wraps can make your strategy more robust over time. Of course, there’s a balance to strike; in some contexts, transparency is valuable. But as a general winner's rule, holding back explanations can preserve your strategic advantage. Ultimately, this rule encourages decisiveness and trust in your own judgment — which are often hallmarks of true winners.
