For me, it's a way to open doors into the past and even glimpse the future through the stories I capture. You might think you need fancy gear to get started, but honestly, that's not true! I often just grab my smartphone. It's incredibly discreet, always with me, and perfect for capturing those spontaneous shots. I’ve seen amazing results from people just like me, snapping away on a tree-lined street or crouching down for a unique low-angle perspective right on a brick sidewalk. It’s all about perspective and being present. My favorite part is exploring. I love wandering through cities like Tempe, looking for unexpected details. You'd be surprised what stories pop out: from the vibrant signs of 'THE HANDLEBAR Tempe' or 'Lotions Potions' to the simple sight of Bird scooters parked casually on a street. Even a 'Fourth St.' sign or a 'LANDFILL' bin can tell a story if you look closely. I’m always on the lookout for interesting light, shadows, and the unique architecture of brick buildings. Capturing these moments means being observant and sometimes a little bold. I often find myself trying different angles – getting down low to the ground to show off the texture of the sidewalk, or finding interesting lines in the buildings. It's about anticipating what might happen next, like someone walking past a striking mural, or the candid expressions of people engrossed in their own worlds. Of course, always be mindful and respectful of people's privacy; it's about observing, not intruding. While a smartphone is a fantastic starting point, I've also experimented with more dedicated gear. Sometimes I'll bring along a small tripod for stability or even a mirrorless camera rig, especially if I'm planning to capture some video alongside my stills. Even adding a simple external microphone to my smartphone rig can elevate the quality. But remember, the best camera is always the one you have with you! Street photography has taught me to appreciate the everyday. It's a constant adventure, and every photo feels like a little treasure.
