“Don’t do that! It’s too dangerous!”
For 27 years, I was always worried—about getting into a good university, about not finding a job. Fear and anxiety consumed me, leaving no room to “enjoy” life because I thought that was something only the wealthy could afford.
But who made that rule?
As a kid, I used to dream of lying down and just staring at the stars. Today, I suddenly remembered that dream while driving, so I stopped and did it. (It was a 3-hour drive with no other cars, very safe.)
In that moment, I felt the real world—the vast universe—not just another work notification.
In today's fast-paced world, many individuals grapple with stress and anxiety stemming from societal expectations. The constant pressure to succeed academically or professionally can overshadow our ability to enjoy the present. It's essential to recognize that life is about balance; taking time to reconnect with nature, like lying under the stars, can offer deep healing and perspective. Mental health research underscores the benefits of engaging in relaxing activities that allow us to disconnect from daily stressors. Activities such as stargazing can help to ground us, bringing clarity and a renewed sense of wonder. Whether it's through travel, nature walks, or quiet reflection, nurturing our mental well-being should take precedence. As we navigate life’s uncertainties, we must challenge the notion that happiness is solely reserved for the wealthy or successful. Everyone deserves a respite from the hustle—finding joy in the little things can lead to a more fulfilling life. By embracing our dreams and moments of tranquility, we reclaim our lives from worry and fear.
