Lower body Tuesday 🫶
Hey Lemon8 Fam! Let's talk about building that powerful, curvy lower body we all love. For us Black women, there's often a unique appreciation for strong, shapely legs and glutes – that 'thick' aesthetic that celebrates our natural strength and beauty. I know for me, it's not just about looking good, but feeling incredibly empowered and healthy. My journey to building a stronger lower body has been all about consistency and focusing on key movements that truly make a difference. When I hit the gym for my lower body days, I prioritize exercises that engage my glutes and hamstrings, helping me sculpt those desired curves. One of my absolute go-to's is the Romanian Deadlift (RDL). This exercise is a game-changer for hamstring and glute development. I typically aim for 2x8 REPS, really focusing on that mind-muscle connection and feeling the stretch in my hamstrings at the bottom. Proper form is crucial here – keeping your back straight, hinging at the hips, and letting the bar slide close to your legs will help prevent injury and maximize gains. Another fantastic variation I incorporate is the B Stance Romanian Deadlift. This single-leg variation helps address any imbalances and provides an intense stretch and contraction in one leg at a time. It’s challenging but so rewarding for building symmetrical strength and shape. Following that, I love to combine movements, so DL to Squat L+R is a staple. This dynamic exercise transitions from a deadlift phase into a squat, effectively working your entire posterior chain and quadriceps. It's a great way to get more bang for your buck in a single movement, building strength and endurance across my glutes, hamstrings, and quads. Beyond just the exercises, it's important to remember that nutrition plays a massive role in muscle growth. Fueling your body with adequate protein and healthy carbs is essential for recovery and building those 'thick' muscles. Also, don't underestimate the power of progressive overload – gradually increasing the weight, reps, or sets over time to continually challenge your muscles. This is how we keep growing and getting stronger. Ultimately, building a 'thick' lower body is about celebrating your strength, embracing your curves, and committing to a fitness journey that makes you feel amazing. It's about showing up for yourself, pushing your limits, and enjoying the process.
