5 years ago I made $10/hr and had multiple jobs, was told I’d never be able to afford a mercedes, and was with someone that made me feel like I was never smart or worth/good at anything but I never cared, I’m always going to do exactly what I say I’m going to do!
Reflecting on my journey over the past five years, I realize how crucial faith and determination were in shaping my path. Starting with multiple low-paying jobs at $10/hr and facing discouragement from people around me, it was easy to feel trapped by circumstances. However, believing that anything is possible with God kept me motivated to push forward even when others doubted my worth or intelligence. I set clear goals for myself: to graduate, match in an infectious disease residency, move into an apartment in Atlanta, and eventually buy a Mercedes-Benz. These were not just dreams but tangible markers of progress that I reminded myself of daily. When I received confirmation of my PGY2 residency position at Emory University Hospital Midtown, it was a validation of my efforts combined with faith. It's important to celebrate every small victory along the way. For anyone facing similar hurdles, remember that perseverance paired with belief can change your story. Surrounding yourself with positive influences and refusing to let negative opinions define your potential are essential. Today, I stand proud, not just because of the material achievements but because of the confidence and clarity that come from trusting in a higher purpose and committing to my promises to myself.
