Mini-Con part 2
There were some awesome people at this mini con nearing the tippy-top of Maine! I wish I could have spent more time talking shop with Christine Akridge. I’ve actually known her for a few years through a writing Discord and she was the first of the two of us to recognize the other (my observation skills are pretty shit)
We were supposed to do an author Q&A panel to finish out the night, but it turned into a sort of off-kilter round table instead. I’ll admit, I was disappointed in the fact that we didn’t actually get to do the panel. The woman running it was late and then didn’t do any organizing to let anybody Je know it was going on.
It was the furthest I’ve traveled for an event, and the first time I had to find a place to stay for one. It was 3 hours away, but it didn’t end until 9pm and I’m old and am usually tucked under my blankets (probably snoring, I’m afraid) by then. I’m 38 years old, and this is the first time I got a solo hotel room. It was glorious! I had big plans to stay up and watch Repo! The Genetic Opera (which my old/new friend was cosplaying from!) but again, I’m old, and started dozing off before the intro even got cranking.
All in all, I lost money doing the con (didn’t make back my hotel and gas costs) but had a blast hanging with Christine, so worth it! I also got some writing done while I was there. Let’s call it a very odd writing retreat?
