Sweet old lady
This Purl, my oldest kitty. She’s about 14 and has been with me since she was an older kitten.
She was probably abandoned as a kitten, but can’t know for sure. She picked a friend of mine’s father as her first family. She darted through his door one day, and hid every time they tried to remove her from the house. They would have kept her, but the father had a bunch of cats all ready and my friend lived in an apartment that didn’t allow pets.
I had recently bought my first home: a rickety ‘89 trailer on 10 acres. I was moving out of parents house with my horse, my dog, and my lamb (yep, I used to have sheep) but I didn’t have a kitty, and I didn’t want to live without one.
Well, my friend asked if I could take the kitten when I first began working on the new place and I said sure… but then I didn’t hear about it for several months, so I went to the local shelter and picked out a shy black kitty I named McGuffin. Another month went by and I finally heard back about the other cat. I had figured she was off the table, and couldn’t honestly afford those first rounds of vet visits (shots, spay) So I apologized and said the only way I could take her if she was up to date on her shots and spayed…. And they did it! So Purl became my second cat.
We’ve been together about 14 years now. I gained several more kitties after getting married. (Cats just kept sorta happening) I lost McGuffin a couple years ago, so Purl is now my oldest fur baby. She’s super sweet and she THE BEST purr. It soothes my soul.
