Setting powder or setting spray?
Hi all! I haven’t used much makeup in the past but I’ve been getting more into it recently. I was wondering, if I’m choosing between setting powder or setting spray, which one should I go with?
Do you all put on setting spray last after powder or do you put more powder again on top of the spray? And is using both really ideal? Recommendations would be great too!!
Thanks!!
When it comes to ensuring your makeup lasts throughout the day, both setting powders and setting sprays play crucial roles. Setting powders are typically used to absorb excess oil and provide a matte finish, which can help control shine, especially for those with oily skin. On the other hand, setting sprays offer a lightweight mist that helps lock in makeup and provide hydration. The question of whether to use setting spray before or after powder can be confusing. Some beauty enthusiasts prefer to apply a setting spray first to help the powder adhere better, while others lay down their powder first for a mattifying effect, then finish with a spray for a more dewy look. Both methods have their merits, and experimenting with these techniques can help you find what works best for your skin type and desired finish. If you're considering using both products, they can complement each other well. Start with a makeup primer, use setting powder to control oil and add a smooth finish, and finish off with a lightweight setting spray. Additionally, many makeup brands now offer hybrid products that combine the benefits of both in one formulation. For product recommendations, look out for translucent powders if you want something that won’t alter the color of your foundation. Brands like Laura Mercier, Fenty Beauty, and Too Faced are popular choices. For setting sprays, Urban Decay's All Nighter and Mac's Fix+ are often touted as makeup staples. Regardless of your choice, the key is to find a routine that fits your personal style and skin type.
