How to Care for a Wood Cutting Board

Caring for a wood cutting board isn’t hard. These pieces are meant to be used and they’ll last for years with the correct care. Here’s how I do it!

A wood cutting board is not just a kitchen tool; it's an investment in your culinary experience. Proper care starts with regular cleaning using mild soap and warm water. After washing, it's crucial to dry the board immediately to prevent warping or cracking. To maintain its moisture and prevent drying out, periodic oiling with food-grade mineral oil is recommended. Simply apply a thin layer of oil using a cloth, and allow it to soak in overnight. This practice not only preserves the wood but also enhances its natural beauty. Avoid soaking your cutting board or putting it in the dishwasher, as these practices can lead to irreparable damage. If stains occur, baking soda can serve as a gentle abrasive to lift discoloration without harming the wood. Lastly, keep your cutting board away from direct sunlight and heat sources to avoid warping. By following these essential care tips, you can ensure that your wood cutting board remains functional and attractive for years to come.
