Wash day 🫶🏾🤗 3 years locd

5/2 Edited to

... Read moreHaving maintained my locs for over three years, I’ve discovered that a consistent wash day routine is crucial for keeping them healthy and vibrant. For those with 4C hair texture, like mine, retaining moisture and preventing buildup can be challenging, but the right techniques make a big difference. I typically start my wash day by rinsing thoroughly with lukewarm water to open the hair cuticles. This prepares my scalp and locs for cleansing. I use a gentle, residue-free shampoo, focusing primarily on my scalp to avoid overly drying the locs themselves. To ensure the shampoo reaches every part, I massage my scalp in circular motions, which also boosts circulation and promotes healthy hair growth. After washing, I often apply a natural conditioning treatment made from ingredients like aloe vera and coconut oil. This helps to lock in moisture and maintain softness without weighing my locs down. Patience is key during the rinsing phase to fully remove product residue. Drying is another important step; I prefer air drying or using a microfiber towel to reduce frizz and breakage. Incorporating protective styling on wash days, such as loose buns or twists, helps my locs retain shape and prevents tangling between washes. Throughout my loc journey, I’ve learned that paying close attention to my scalp’s health is as important as caring for the locs themselves. Regular moisturizing with lightweight oils, and occasionally steaming my scalp, keeps buildup at bay and prevents itching. If you’re three years into your loc journey or just starting, remember that wash day routines evolve as your locs mature. Embrace the process, and don’t be afraid to experiment with products and methods to find what works best for your unique hair. Consistency and gentle care are your best tools for long-lasting, healthy locs.
