Thanks for not pushing my content. I see you.

I’ve been doing this for almost 6 months and I’ve noticed some things. My posts will almost always stay at 1k views, regardless of if I get 100+ shares, a bunch of likes, a bunch of comments, or very little of shares, likes, or comments. This is frustrating because like I said on my new xandraunmasked account on Tik Tok, I’m uncertain about a lot of things, but deserving to go viral is not one of them.

My content is unique, impressively edited, and entertaining. I would not have said this months ago when I started with this bio: the channel about nothing.

But I am no longer the channel about nothing. I am the channel that hopes to inspire other neurodivergents to be themselves, but fiercely. Because a majority of us have been told to like different things and to try and be less weird.. for a majority of our lives. Self ownership is as I’ve found.. freeing.

But it seems that social media is not down with this. It is “social” media after all. The apps want trends on trends on trends. The apps want simple ideas repackaged endlessly. The apps want things that are easy to digest. And.. they want to keep a lot of creators under a certain threshold so they don’t have to pay up.

I’m pretty good at pattern recognition. I see what they do. They’ll give you a handful of really successful posts to keep you thinking that you’ll become even more successful. This serves to make us stay on the apps. But they keep it at just a handful of successful posts. Tik Tok drew out my most successful post for months with an eerily slow climb to almost 100k despite there being a TON of likes and shares and attention on this post.

They’re absolutely controlling a post’s success and forcing us to either pay or get so frustrated with the barriers to success that we give up because we don’t. want. to. pay. This is frustrating because the effort creators put into their content far exceeds the effort that social media sites put into moderation and support. Facebook is an absolute hellscape without moderation. Tik Tok has the absolute worst moderation AI, giving out strikes for innocuous posts and completely ignoring serious breeches of their t&c.

More needs to be said about this. Creators need to stop being just frustrated and speak out about the blatant censorship of high quality and unique ideas. As I've explained.. it's not fair. Let's not stand for this nonsense. Everybody's sick of the "pretty little baby” social media landscape for a reason. It’s repetitive and rife with plenty of brain rot. And part of this does stem from the viewer.. I’m sorry. If you truly want new ideas, engage with them.

... Read moreIn today's rapidly evolving social media landscape, many content creators, particularly those who identify as neurodivergent, are grappling with the struggles of getting their unique voices heard amidst an overwhelming preference for repetitive trends. This frustration is palpable as platforms prioritize easily digestible content over creative originality, leading to a concerning cycle where genuine expression is often suppressed. The challenge lies not only in the visibility of their posts, which can remain stagnant regardless of engagement metrics, but also in navigating the algorithms that dictate what content gets featured. Many creators notice that their well-edited and authentic posts can struggle to gain traction, sparking a sense of doubt about their creative abilities. Moreover, engaging in a genuine way with these creators’ works can lead to a richer and more diverse social media experience. Encouraging viewers to seek out and interact with unique ideas can empower creators and help shift the algorithmic favor toward quality content instead of mere trends. As the pressures of conforming to social media norms rise, creators must continue advocating for their right to share distinct ideas without censorship. It's essential for the community to recognize the value of diverse voices and to push back against the tendency to simplify and homogenize content. By actively supporting authentic creators, audiences can foster an environment that embraces creativity over conformity, ensuring that the digital space thrives with varied perspectives and innovative thoughts.
