*Am* I crazy? About that..
It’s been awhile since I wrote a long winded video caption. In lieu of a comment that said, “Less words please,” here’s a ton of words written just for you 😉
I get a comment every now and then implying that my saneness must be lacking. Fair assumption I guess, but my content is actually about challenging common assumptions, so here’s the thing…
Just because my brain thinks of off the wall things does not mean that I lack sanity. This is actually some old fashioned thinking and reminds me of the bad old days of locking people with disabilities away in asylums.
Spoiler alert: I’m autistic, not “crazy” (whatever crazy even means). I’m not an autistic whose autism is immediately obvious, and this is only because people have no idea how autism presents differently in females. Autistic females are often quicker to socially mask than males, get lost in their imaginations often, are akin to males in that their special interests are intense and often unusual, but again.. females will hide the intenseness and unusual-ness of their special interests to assimilate.
I did this for years. I tried with all of my might to tamp down the oddball-ness of my thinking, but the thing about neurotypicals is that they can sense something is bubbling underneath the mask. “Something’s a little off,” they think and so ultimately they are less likely to pursue a friendship or engage with your masked social media content.
I freed myself by finally pursuing a brand of content that embraces me in my entirety. I’m a generator of endless weird ideas and there’s nothing wrong with that. And a typical day for me is hanging out with my dog editing videos while my bf plays disc golf.. and then going out to Longhorn at night to help him eat 3 baskets of bread. Perhaps that’s more boring and less tumultuous than you’d imagine, but that’s me.
