The New Resident Evil is Intense 😅
Gotta love the new resident evil Requiem 😅
You know, when I first jumped into a new Resident Evil game, that feeling of dread and excitement is just unmatched. The original post nailed it – the new Resident Evil is intense! And that intensity often comes from encountering some of the series' most iconic creatures. It always makes me wonder, if someone asks 'WHAT IS RESIDENT EVIL EVEN ABOUT?', I'd definitely tell them it's about survival against incredible odds and facing truly terrifying monsters, and the Licker is definitely high on that list! These crimson, brain-exposed abominations have crawled out of the games and into our nightmares, making a significant impact on the Resident Evil movie franchise. For many of us, the movies were our first introduction to these horrifying bio-organic weapons (BOWs). The question often is, how well did the films adapt these fan-favorite creatures, and did they capture the sheer terror we feel in the games? The Lickers made their chilling cinematic debut in Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004). I remember seeing them for the first time on the big screen, with their grotesque, exposed muscles, long tongues, and razor-sharp claws. They were a visceral threat, especially in that infamous church scene. Unlike their game counterparts, which are typically blind but have acute hearing, the movie Lickers seemed to have a terrifying blend of speed, agility, and a heightened sense of their surroundings, making them even more formidable. They were depicted as T-virus mutations, evolving from zombies into something far more dangerous and predatory. Their appearance wasn't a one-off. Lickers returned in subsequent films like Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) and Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), often serving as formidable antagonists that test Alice's combat skills. Each appearance seemed to amp up their ferocity and scale, sometimes even showing them in swarms or with subtle design variations. The filmmakers clearly understood the visual impact of these creatures and leveraged it to deliver intense action sequences and jump scares. More recently, in the reboot Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021), we saw a more game-accurate portrayal of the Licker. This version, while perhaps less prominent than in the Milla Jovovich films, felt incredibly true to its horrific video game origins. Its appearance was brief but terrifying, truly capturing the essence of a blind, sound-sensitive predator that hunts by hearing. This attention to detail really resonated with long-time fans who appreciated the nod to the source material's specific Licker mechanics. So, what makes a Licker so terrifying, whether on screen or in-game? It's their unique combination of features: their exposed brain suggesting a loss of humanity and heightened primal instinct, their incredibly long, whip-like tongues that can impale or disarm, and their ability to quickly scale walls and ceilings, attacking from unexpected angles. They represent a pure, unadulterated form of biological horror, a mutation gone horribly wrong. Their distinct shriek or growl, often heard before they're seen, is enough to send shivers down your spine. From the intense action-horror of the original movie series to the more faithful adaptation in *Welcome to Raccoon City*, the Licker remains a quintessential symbol of the Resident Evil universe's horror. They are a constant reminder of the devastating consequences of the T-virus and why exploring Raccoon City is always an intense, heart-pounding experience. What's your most memorable or scariest Licker moment from any of the Resident Evil movies? I'd love to hear it!
