The BEST Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Looking for a fail-proof chocolate chip cookie recipe that’s crispy on the edges, gooey in the middle, and packed with chocolatey goodness? This is IT! Perfect for sharing or indulging in a little self-care baking session. Here’s how you can make them:

✨ Ingredients:

• 1 1/3 cups (170g) all-purpose flour

• 1/2 tsp baking soda

• 1/2 tsp baking powder

• 3/4 tsp kosher salt

• 1/2 cup (112g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled

• 1/2 cup (100g) light brown sugar, packed

• 1/3 cup (70g) granulated sugar

• 2 tsp vanilla extract

• 1 large egg

• 1 1/2 cups (250g) semisweet chocolate chips (plus more for topping)

• Flaky sea salt for garnish (optional)

📝 Instructions:

1️⃣ Preheat & Prep:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

2️⃣ Mix Dry Ingredients:

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

3️⃣ Blend Wet Ingredients:

In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until it forms a paste-like consistency (1–2 minutes).

4️⃣ Add Egg & Vanilla:

Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.

5️⃣ Combine & Fold:

Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Use a spatula to fold them together. Be careful not to overmix. Fold in the chocolate chips.

6️⃣ Scoop & Bake:

Use a 2oz cookie scoop (or 1/4 measuring cup) to portion the dough. Place 5 cookies on the baking sheet. Bake for 12–15 minutes, depending on your desired texture:

👉 12 mins = Gooey centers

👉 15 mins = Crisp edges

7️⃣ Garnish & Cool:

Top with extra chocolate chips and sprinkle with flaky sea salt (optional). Let cool on a rack.

... Read moreHey fellow bakers! Since sharing my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe, I've had some of you ask about how to get that perfect texture or why your cookies might not be turning out quite right. Let's dive deeper into some common cookie questions and tips to make sure your batches are always golden-brown and delicious, just like the ones you see in those mouth-watering photos! Mastering Cookie Texture: Gooey, Crispy, or Just Right? Many of you search for specific textures, like 'undercooked cookie' for that perfect gooey center, or 'crunchy chip cookie' for a satisfying snap. Achieving your desired texture is all about timing and ingredients: For Ultra-Gooey Centers: As my recipe suggests, slightly underbaking is key. Pull them from the oven when the edges are set and golden, but the centers still look a little soft and underdone. They'll continue to cook slightly on the hot baking sheet, resulting in that delightful gooeyness. If you're wondering 'how many eggs in cookies' affects this, more egg yolk can make them chewier, while egg white can contribute to a slightly crisper edge. My recipe's single large egg balances this perfectly for a classic result. For Crispy Edges: Bake for the longer end of the recommended time (around 15 minutes). The extra time allows more moisture to evaporate, giving you that lovely crispness. Just be careful not to overbake and burn them! Avoiding Flat Cookies: If your cookies are spreading too much and looking 'bad looking cookies' instead of thick and chewy, there are a few culprits. Ensure your butter is cooled but not re-hardened after melting; if it's too warm, it'll make your dough too soft. Also, chilling your dough for at least 30 minutes (or even overnight!) can significantly reduce spread, leading to thicker, chewier cookies. Properly measuring your flour is also crucial – too little flour equals flat cookies! Ingredient Spotlight: Beyond Just Chocolate Chips While my recipe uses butter for that rich flavor, some of you might be curious about 'crisco chocolate chip cookies recipe'. Shortening (like Crisco) can indeed lead to a different cookie. It generally results in thicker, softer, and less spread-out cookies because it has a higher melting point than butter and no water content. Butter, on the other hand, gives a richer flavor and contributes to those crispy edges and chewier centers due to its water content evaporating. Experimenting with different fats can be fun, but for the 'BEST' all-around cookie, I stand by butter! And speaking of ingredients, while nestle cookie crisp might inspire thoughts of chocolate, nothing beats quality chocolate chips. Trader Joe’s, Guittard, or Ghirardelli really do make a difference in flavor. Don't forget that sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top – it beautifully enhances the chocolate flavor and adds a gourmet touch, making them look even more inviting for those 'cookies fotos'. Tips for Picture-Perfect Presentation & Storage For 'golden homemade cookies on baking tray' that look as good as they taste, aim for uniform scooping. A cookie scoop (like the 2oz one I mentioned) ensures consistent size and even baking. Once they're out of the oven, let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. This helps them set up and prevents breakage. These beautiful, delicious cookies are truly perfect for your 'holiday treat trays' or any shared moment. To keep your homemade chocolate chip cookies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. If you want to keep them soft, you can even add half a slice of bread to the container – the cookies will absorb the moisture from the bread. Happy baking, everyone! Can't wait to see your delicious results!

I’ve finally found my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, I’ve made these several times by my husband’s request. I do cut back the cooking time by 2-3 mins for a more gooey center and it made 22 cookies. Thank you for sharing! So, so GOOD!! 🤎😋🍪
