What to have during chemo treatments

Hey y’all 👋

Have you or a loved one been diagnosed with chemo?

If so, here’s what you (and them!) will need during these long chemo treatment times. I have learned over the past week what’s easiest for us (as my fiancé has cancer & treatments are long and hard)

⚫️ A big tote bag! This is best to bring in any extra blankets, or a pillow from home. You can also pack snacks, books, extra clothing, anything! You’ll be there a while during treatment so you wanna make sure you’re comfortable

⚫️A good book! This is for the person getting treatment mostly. Chemo brain is real, this can help them work on that. Also will make them sleepy, so they can sleep during treatment.

⚫️ Slide on shoes! Again, mostly for the person getting treatment. Chemo is known to swell your feet or ankles, so slide ons are best. Also! They’re comfy and if you are in a bed you can slide them on or off.

⚫️ IPad / Tablet! Play games, read the news, watch videos. Basically anything to keep you busy is best.

Initially, consider bringing a spacious tote bag loaded with essentials such as blankets, robes, and extra socks to provide warmth and comfort. These items can significantly enhance the patient’s comfort level, especially when waiting for treatment. A good book is another invaluable tool. It can help occupy the mind and counteract the effects of "chemo brain" – a common term for the cognitive side effects experienced during treatment. Patients might find themselves easily distracted, and a gripping storyline can provide both a distraction and a way to relax during their sessions. Comfortable footwear is equally important. Slip-on shoes allow patients to adjust as needed without the hassle of tying shoelaces, which can be difficult during treatment due to potential swelling or discomfort. Lastly, consider bringing an iPad or tablet. This gadget can be a lifeline, enabling patients to watch shows, play games, or read the news. Keeping the mind engaged during treatment can make the time pass quicker and provide a much-needed distraction from the process. By packing these thoughtful items, you can help create a more pleasant and supportive environment for anyone undergoing chemotherapy.
