NEVER Have Chapped Lips Again - 3 Simple Steps

As someone who almost ALWAYS had chapped lips from anxiety or dry weather, I have to share what’s working for me!

I try to keep it simple and convenient so it’s easier to be consistent.

1. While in the shower or when washing your face, simply use your finger to scrub the crap out of your lips! (Don’t be rough on cuts tho😬)

I personally love the brand Fresh, their Sugar Lip Polish works so well and is moisturizing so you can’t hurt your lips easily. Make sure to really get into the corners the inner edge- that's where dry skin tends to stick!

2. Follow up with a thick, hydrating product. Lip masks are a great option! They're thicker than a regular balm which helps them stay put overnight and keep your lips hydrated. I keep a mini by my bed side just in case.

I have used both Tatcha and Laneige lip masks, both are amazing! Aquaphor is also a great option if you already have it :)

3. The next morning, follow with a balm to keep things hydrated throughout the day! I actually like to reapply my lip mask- I use it around the clock some days. But when I’m at work or out and about I use the Laneige Lip Glowy Balm.

This routine leaves my lips smooth, hydrated, and the perfect blank canvas! Getting rid of dead and dry skin makes lipstick and glosses apply (and look!) SO much better. It also helps your lip balms penetrate deeper, keeping your lips more healthy and hydrated in general :)

If your lips are always dry, cracked, or simply hurting, understanding the root causes can make a huge difference in finally achieving that smooth, healthy pout. Beyond environmental factors, several things can contribute to persistent chapped lips. Dehydration, both internally from not drinking enough water and externally from dry air, is a major one. I started carrying a water bottle everywhere, and it genuinely made a difference. Our habits also play a role – lip licking, for instance, can temporarily relieve dryness but actually makes it worse as the saliva evaporates, taking more moisture with it. Picking at dry skin or biting your lips can also exacerbate the problem, leading to painful cracked lips. Sometimes, the cause can be hidden in your daily routine. Certain toothpastes or mouthwashes, especially those with strong flavors or harsh detergents, can irritate sensitive lip skin. Even some lip balms, believe it or not, can dry out your lips if they contain ingredients like menthol, camphor, or salicylic acid, which can be irritating for some. I used to think any chapstick was good, but finding the best chapstick that doesn't dry out lips means looking for nourishing ingredients like shea butter, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and occlusives like petrolatum or lanolin to lock in moisture. My journey to keep lips plump and juicy led me to scrutinize every product I used! For those struggling with chapped lips not healing, it might be worth looking into potential nutritional deficiencies, particularly B vitamins, iron, or zinc. In more severe cases, persistent inflammation or infection can lead to a condition called cheilitis. If your lips are severely red, swollen, or have persistent sores that don't improve with regular care, it's always best to consult a dermatologist. They can help identify underlying medical conditions or allergies. To build on my simple 3-step routine, I've added a few extra self-care habits that have been game-changers. I always make sure to use a lip balm with SPF, especially if I’m outdoors, as sun exposure can lead to dryness and damage. A humidifier in my bedroom during dry months also works wonders for my skin, including my lips. And remember, consistency is key! Using that sugar lip polish a few times a week, followed by a thick lip sleeping mask every night, and then a hydrating lip balm throughout the day creates a protective barrier that keeps my lips smooth and prevents them from returning to their severely chapped state. It’s all about creating a holistic lip care guide that works for you!
