The grind was real on mw3

... Read moreHey everyone! I just wrapped up my Modern Warfare 3 campaign playthrough, and since so many of you are asking about it, I wanted to share my personal experience, especially regarding the campaign length. For anyone wondering 'how long is the MW3 campaign?', let me break it down for you based on my own grind. First off, the general consensus for the main story arc of MW3's campaign is typically around 4-6 hours. However, I found that my own playtime stretched a bit beyond that, especially since I wasn't just rushing through. I really took my time to explore the new Open Combat Missions, which are a major departure from the traditional linear CoD campaigns. These missions definitely add to the overall duration if you're like me and enjoy scavenging for different weapons, exploring the map, and tackling optional objectives. The campaign consists of 14 missions in total, with about half of them being these more open-ended experiences. While the linear missions feel familiar and fast-paced, the Open Combat Missions can vary wildly in length depending on your playstyle. For instance, sometimes I'd spend an extra 15-20 minutes in a single Open Combat Mission just trying out different stealth approaches or finding all the hidden gear. This is where the 'grind was real' for me – not in a bad way, but in feeling like there was always more to accomplish within each mission. I recall one particularly intense moment where I was critically low on health and frantically searching for armor plates to survive a heavy firefight. Each successful encounter, especially after a close call, rewarded a satisfying burst of +XP on the move, making the effort feel worthwhile. Getting those point blank kills always felt extra rewarding, too, adding to the feeling of progression. If you're a completionist who wants to find every weapon, unlock every perk, and ace every challenge, you could easily push your playtime closer to 7-8 hours. The game doesn't explicitly track campaign completion time in the same way for side objectives, but the replayability of the Open Combat Missions encourages you to go back and try different tactics. So, is it a short campaign? Compared to some past CoD titles, yes, it's on the shorter side if you're just blasting through. But the quality of the new mission structure and the emphasis on player choice in the Open Combat Missions really makes up for it. It doesn't feel rushed if you allow yourself to engage with what the game offers. I personally appreciated the tighter narrative focus and the opportunity to approach objectives from multiple angles. It kept things fresh and engaging. My advice for anyone diving into the MW3 campaign: don't just sprint from objective to objective. Take your time, experiment with different loadouts, and enjoy the tactical freedom the Open Combat Missions provide. You might find your "grind" is just as real and rewarding as mine was!
