If you've been to the Riverside Animal Shelter you know at the entrance to the dog kennels on either side they have these large viewing areas where they usually have multiple small dogs. As I past by the enclosure Emma caught my eye. She was smiling and barking and dancing. So full of life. Not a care in the world. I stood there smiling back at her like an idiot. Once she caught my eye it was as if she was putting on a show. Pick me! Pick me! Please pick me. It was love at first sight. How could I not take her home? I think I told Haven she was on the euthanasia list when I came home so he wouldn't be mad. She was the fourth dog in less than a year that I had brought home. At first it seemed like no one wanted to play with her. She didn't care. She would zoom across the backyard going so fast the wind would lift her ears. So fast her feet barely touched the ground. It didn't take long for her and Rogue to become best sisters. They would play all day together. It made ME so happy to see THEM so happy. They just clicked. She was one of the original four X-Pups. She was always happy. Always ready to party. Always down for a treat. She got anxiety sometimes, but besides that she never stopped smiling. I'm going to miss her chasing her own tail. I thought that was the funniest thing. She was so good at entertaining herself.
The house will feel empty without her. No pitter patter through the living room. No unnecessary barking just for funsies. No goofy smiles for absolutely no reason. She gave me 13 of her best years and I'm sitting here crying, wishing I could of had 13 more.
