First museum visit of the year ✨

🍋 Our Day:

My mom, my brother and I have lived in Austin for most of my life, and I don’t think the three of us have never been to a museum together. Blanton Museum of Art

I saw there was a post on Facebook about their winter installation by a local artist & a Mayan art exhibition was ending that weekend. I let my mom know since she’s always down to do anything Mayan related (because her last name is Maya🤭). We planned a little family trip to the Blanton that weekend & we had an amazing time!

We spent hours walking around, admiring all of the cool art, and there were so many pieces! We got there around 3pm and didn’t leave until dark, we still missed a couple wings filled with more artworks😅 My mom and my brother walked around like giddy little children & I was so happy to see them full of wonder! I love taking pictures of people so that’s exactly what I did🤭😁

🍋 How I Felt:

I was super grateful to start out the new year on such a positive and inspiring note! I usually go to these type of things by myself or, like my brother, usually only go on a school related trip. But I’m glad I got to go with my family because it was nice to see that they appreciated the creativity and the time that went behind these works of art. It was nice to spend a beautiful time surrounded by beautiful things. I hope we get to do it more this year/going forward lol.

💖 My Takeaways:

The biggest thing that I learned was that just like I’m growing as an artist, so are my mom and brother growing as people. A younger me would’ve thought that they would be bored at a place like this & that they wouldn’t appreciate it as much as I do. I’m so excited to see them in a new light, growing over the assumptions I’ve made of them as kid growing up. I learned to keep an open mind & to see them as complex individuals, not just my mom and my brother. They are my greatest treasures and I am so happy that we got to spend this time together!

... Read moreStarting the new year with a family trip to the Blanton Museum of Art was a delightful experience. As we wandered through the mesmerizing art pieces, we were not just consuming visual art; we were connecting as a family. Museums like Blanton offer incredible opportunities not only for artistic appreciation but also for personal growth. Art invites deep conversations and reflections on history, culture, and society. The current exhibitions, including contemporary installations and historical artifacts, create an engaging space for interactions. As we explored, each artwork sparked discussions that strengthened our bonds and offered new perspectives on creativity. Visiting museums is not only about the art displayed; it’s also about the memories created through shared experiences. If you haven't visited a museum recently, I encourage you to plan a trip with loved ones. The insights gained and the creativity ignited can enrich our lives in ways we cannot imagine. So go ahead, pack your bags, make memories, and remember to keep an open mind as you explore art that reflects the beauty of life's complexities.
