OGTT @ KKH (PSA: retook) tips and tricks
At 24-28 weeks there’s a glucose tolerance test and I’ll admit i badly misjudged how it would go.
Prior to the test I was told to stop eating at 12am. I went to KKH in the morning ready to get it over with and have a nice lunch, I went in, they took my blood and I tried to request for a cold bottle of the glucose drink, unfortunately they didn’t have any at the time.
I chugged the whole bottle which was lemon lime flavoured but really tasted like flat sprite syrup which to me was awful.
I went on with my doctor’s appointment, and sat down waiting for 1 hour, right then I started feeling nauseous and like I really had to go number 2 which I did turns out one of the side effects is diarrhoea and I had to go multiple times. The sugar really shot through me and I barely got past the 1 hour, took my blood again and I was ready to suffer another hour but I guess my body had other plans and 5 mins later I threw up. Meaning having to retake the test 💀💀💀
Honestly I thought I failed and that meant that my body couldn’t process the sugar well but I went back and managed the entire test without the side effects (other than nausea) and this is what worked for me! 🙏🏻
1. You DONT have to chug the bottle
Yes, it’s syrupy and tastes really sweet and thick but you have 5 minutes to finish the bottle, take your time don’t rush to push it all down or it might come up just as fast.
2. You CAN take SIPS of water after
So you still can’t eat until the test is over but tiny sips of water is just fine, so bring a bottle and sip whenever there’s a wave of nausea.
3. You DONT have to sit down
It’s boring to wait 2 whole hours. No one told me I couldn’t and I really spent the whole 1 hour walking around and up and down the hospital, went into every shop, looked at all the goods. Taking small slow steps helped ease everything and made time pass faster. (However please consult before doing this! Just because no one said anything when I asked doesn’t mean it’s the right advice 😭)
2nd time around and I felt so much better during and after the test, hope this helps any momma out there! 🙏🏻🫶🏻

Omg same. I chug down the first bottle cause it was too sweet for me. Turn out at the 45 minutes, I couldn’t take it, I start nauseating and blacking out. I vomitted in the middle of the mall and the guards have to help me call my husband 😂
