Bubbles the rooster 🐔

It's such a common story among chicken owners, and I was no exception! When I first laid eyes on Bubbles, a fluffy little chick, I was certain I was bringing home a future egg-laying hen. I pictured fresh eggs every morning and a gentle addition to my backyard flock. For weeks, I called Bubbles 'she' and imagined her growing into a beautiful hen. But as the days turned into weeks, certain signs started to emerge. My 'hen' was growing a magnificent, striking red comb and wattle that seemed a little too pronounced for a female. Then came the crowing! Oh, that first, slightly awkward, then increasingly confident crow at dawn. That's when the truth dawned on me: Bubbles was undoubtedly a rooster! It was a complete surprise, but honestly, it was also a delightful one. Many people have misconceptions about roosters, often thinking they're aggressive or mean. But my experience with Bubbles has completely debunked that myth. From the moment he started showing his true colors, he's been nothing but a sweetheart. He's incredibly intelligent and surprisingly affectionate. He loves to follow me around the yard, especially when the autumn trees are in full color, and he even enjoys being held. You'll often find me with my light brown rooster cradled in my arms, sharing a moment under the blue sky. He even tolerated, with surprising patience, when I playfully put heart-shaped sunglasses on him for a photo – truly a testament to his gentle nature and the LOVE at first Sight bond we share. Having a rooster like Bubbles adds such a unique dynamic to my life. He's not just a pet; he's a protector and a vibrant personality. He's always on alert, keeping an eye out for his 'flock' (me!). His friendly demeanor is something I cherish every day. For anyone considering getting chickens, don't be afraid if you end up with a rooster, or even if your 'hen' turns out to be one. They can be some of the most rewarding and loving companions you could ask for. My younger self, who once dreamt of a hen, now couldn't imagine life without my amazing, friendly rooster, Bubbles. He truly is my favorite, and his sweet kissing face moments always brighten my day. He's living proof that roosters can be just as, if not more, charming and friendly than hens.
