Books That’s Helping Me Become “That Girl!”💁🏾♀️💕
Reading was my 1st love as a kid. I had every series of “Sweet Valley High”, “Babysitter’s Club”, “Boxcart Kids”, “Goosebumps”, etc! I read them all at least 2x.
I’m getting back to reading now and it feels amazing. This time around I’m reading more self help books because need to get my life on track and become the women I know I truly am!
This book is a game changer so far!

It’s truly incredible how finding the right book can shift your entire perspective. After rekindling my childhood love for reading, I stumbled upon a title that has been nothing short of transformative: 'The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control: A Path to Peace and Power.' When I first picked it up, I was intrigued by the subtitle. I'd always prided myself on being organized and in control, but deep down, I knew that striving for perfection often left me feeling anxious and overwhelmed. This book promised a different path – one to peace and power through losing control, which felt counterintuitive but incredibly necessary for my journey to becoming “that woman” I envision for myself. The core idea that resonated with me was how often our desire for perfection actually hinders our progress. The author eloquently explains that true peace isn't found in rigidly adhering to every plan or having every outcome flawlessly executed. Instead, it's about understanding what's truly within our control and gracefully letting go of the rest. This concept hit home, especially as I was trying to implement new healthy habits. I used to get so discouraged if I missed a workout or ate something "unplanned." This book taught me to view these moments not as failures, but as opportunities for flexibility and self-compassion. One particular chapter discussed embracing imperfection and how it actually opens doors to greater creativity and authentic living. For someone who thrives on structure, this was a radical but liberating thought. It's not about abandoning my goals, but rather about approaching them with a gentler, more forgiving mindset. This has been a game-changer for my overall wellness. I’ve started to notice how much mental energy I used to expend on managing tiny details that ultimately didn't matter. Now, I redirect that energy towards more meaningful activities, like cultivating a calm morning routine or spending quality time with loved ones. The practical exercises within 'The Perfectionist's Guide' have been invaluable. They encourage you to identify your personal perfectionist triggers and develop strategies for responding constructively rather than reactively. For instance, I used to feel immense pressure to have a perfectly spotless home, which often led to burnout. Now, I prioritize a "clean enough" approach, allowing myself to enjoy my space without the constant pressure. This shift has freed up so much mental space, making room for more joyful pursuits, including more time for reading. Speaking of reading, this book has deepened my appreciation for it even more. It’s helped me create a dedicated reading nook – a cozy corner where I can escape and immerse myself in stories and self-improvement without distractions. This little space has become my sanctuary, a place where I can genuinely focus on absorbing knowledge and reflecting on how to integrate these new perspectives into my life. It really is true that nurturing your mind with beneficial content is a key healthy habit that contributes to overall well-being. Ultimately, 'The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control: A Path to Peace and Power' isn't just a book; it's a toolkit for a more intentional and joyful life. It’s teaching me that letting go of the need for absolute control isn't a weakness, but a profound strength. It’s guiding me to embrace my authentic self, imperfections and all, and in doing so, I truly feel I am stepping into the powerful, peaceful woman I was always meant to be. This book is a must-read for anyone on their own "that girl" journey, seeking to replace rigid perfectionism with genuine peace and practical empowerment.
