Silent to do list

In the book Goodbye, Things by Fumio Sasaki, he talks about the silent to do list.

In short, it’s the concept that suggest that each item of our home needs to be maintained.

If you have a plant, the plant is constantly sending “silent” messages of

-water me

-need more dirt

Every item in our home is always telling us something

-clean me

-tidy up

-organize me

So, decluttering the excess stuff that I didn’t use/need helped me quiet that not so silent to do list.

My stuff was SCREAMING to me all the time, and I was reflecting that on my mood!

Yep! That TRIGGERED burnout, always overwhelmed, always reactive mama… 💔

Clutter usually send out negative messages…

It puts our nervous systems on edge.

We were never meant to deal with much.

head over to my b!0 to grab my free decluttering checklist

You deserve a home where you can relax and feel safe, not a place where you’re constantly feeling on fight and flight 🤍

... Read moreThe silent to-do list concept emphasizes how our possessions can create an ongoing mental load, often leading to feelings of overwhelm. Items in our home send us 'silent' signals, such as the need for care or organization, manifesting as clutter and anxiety. A well-maintained home reduces stress and enhances mental well-being. Decluttering is transformative—it allows us to reclaim our space and our peace of mind. By recognizing that each item, from plants needing watering to books demanding tidiness, communicates subtle demands, we can better prioritize our environment. Over time, letting go of excess not only improves physical space but also positively impacts our emotional states. Creating a minimalistic environment, as suggested by experts like Sasaki, invites tranquility into our lives. Many find relief through practical decluttering strategies, such as following checklists or step-by-step guidance on how to sort and decide what to keep. Getting started might feel daunting, but every small step towards a simplified home can alleviate the pressure of the silent messages from our belongings. Streamlining your living area enables you to focus on the things that truly bring joy and purpose. Incorporating mindfulness into your decluttering journey can enhance your connection with your belongings, making the process more meaningful. Remember, a decluttered home can lead to a more relaxed lifestyle, allowing you to enjoy spaces where you can unwind rather than feel stressed. Embrace the quieting effect of a simplified home today for a brighter tomorrow.
